Matt Monro By Request (Part 2 the fans choose)

Post by Marty » Mon Oct 17, 2005 4:02 pm

One of the newer posters to the board, Rob, influenced this question with his mention of Matt Monro By Request, an album where the tracks were favourites of Matt's contemporaries, in that vein, imagine that between us all we have a double album to fill with Matt Monro tracks that we, the fans, request. Whether it be a favourite, most widely known, a song that means something very special to you or something that just typifies Mr Monro. Which track would your "request" be, and more importantly why choose it?

My Choice : Walk Away, probably the first song I heard by Matt Monro, my nan had it on an old 45, and even on the old Bush record player she had, it always sounded wonderful, and still reminds me to this day of childhood Sundays and those great roasties she used to make.

I agree, Walk Away is my all time favourite, with it's haunting melody and Matt at his very best. Another favourite of mine is the lovely Sarah's Coming Home, a lesser known song, but beautifully sung, this was my late mother's favourite too.

While not my all-time favorite, "All That Remains" is a very lovely melody and if you have not heard it, by all means, get a copy somewhere and listen to it.

the arrangement of Orchestra and Matt reach a beautiful synthesis on "Rockin' Chair" which i'd put alongside anything anybody else recorded, and i'd like to include also
