NEW MATT DVD

Post by karl » Wed Sep 04, 2013 11:23 pm

Amazon are listing THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC with a release date of October 28th , is this material we have already or something new?

I checked the MM dvd's I have and the titles are different. It would be great if it was something we haven't had before.

It's a repackage of the Portrait Documentary and the Ultimate Performer in one set. Nothing new I'm afraid.

We know of quite a lot of footage from around the world that we would love to see issued on DVD, but in the current market where DVD sales have dropped sharply none of the labels want to pay the exorbitant prices most TV companies want to charge for the footage - The last time we spoke to SOFA, holders of the Ed Sullivan show material, they wanted $2000 per minute for use of the footage. Matt's three performances total around 7/8 minutes so this would cost roughly £10,000 just for that. Madness!

Another Canadian station was after £10,000 for a performance, Even the BBC is expensive (the Matt at the BBC set was done under a special deal between them and EMI).

I have a list of what we know exists and is unreleased sitting ready and waiting for whoever show interest if the companies finally realise that it is better to allow release at a smaller rate and actually make some money than it is to hold it to ransom.

I agree Richard, to think there is footage out there we would all love to see and greed is the common factor, to ask for that kind of money is just ridiculous but they don't seem to be able to see that.

Thanks for the information on the forthcoming dvd I already have the others so will give that a miss.
