Matt Monro

Post by Paul » Tue Nov 15, 2005 1:56 am

Hello Michele and everyone on this board! My name is Paul and I live in Toronto, Canada. I'm originally from Burnley, Lancs, but came to Toronto when I was seven. I can't tell you how excited I am at just finding MattMonro.com!!!

Although Matt was more or less 'before my time', my sister always said that I was born in the wrong decade :P To me, Matt Monro was and still remains the best male vocalist ever. I can't tell you how much pleasure I get from listening to his CDs and vinyl (and not to mention singing along - pretending I'm Matt Monro). I love his phrasing, his power, perfect pitch...I could go on and on.

It's also great to hear (see?) talk about Matt Jr. I was Googling him 3 or four months ago and couldn't find much of anything.

That's about it for now. I'm looking forward to examining the entire site over the coming days!

Look forward to hearing from you again

Welcome to the forum Paul! :D Yes, I would agree with the things you say. I have always felt that pound for pound Matt was by far the best male vocalist there has been. I think you are absolutely spot on when you say about phrasing, power, perfect pitch, etc as I think they were such great qualities of Matt's as a vocalist. He also had a great understanding of a song he was singing and how to deliver it and that came through in every line he sung. Wonderful! :D These are the things which make him so irreplaceable.

Good to see you join us on the forum anyway Paul.

best wishes to you,

Lee H

Looks like this is the best post to share my overall enthusiasm for Matt and this website. Paul and Leeroy, I agree with everything you have said!

My story in a nutshell: After some thirty-odd years of living, I had most of my "favorite things" fairly well established, including singers. I knew what I liked, had my CD collection pretty much set, wasn't looking for anything more, and didn't think I needed it. For some reason, though, one day, I decided to explore a "little known" (to me) voice further.

The first Matt Monro CD I bought turned my world upside-down in an instant! I went from passive listener to insatiable fan. On a trip to New York, I cleaned out a record store's entire supply! I bribed friends in England to go shopping for more! Virtually overnight, Matt Monro became my favorite singer, and remains so to this day. It's been a little lonely being a huge Matt fan over here in the States (I'm used to hearing "Who?" a lot), so the chance to share with others on this website is most welcome indeed. Matt's voice has brought a musical beauty to my home in ways I couldn't have imagined.
