Thanks Robert for doing this. If it's okay with you, I'll submit my 1 - 10 rating on each song as well. I love doing these kinds of things. But first I need to relisten to the album. My initial ratings perhaps include too many 10s, but as you say it's superb. I also have a 5 (it's not Maria  ), but I need to listen again to see if I'm being too harsh on this one song.

We should do this for those other Capital albums. I love them all.

Yes, you are correct Robert, Matt's duet with Cliff Richard is "Let There Be Love".

"Could this be "We're Gonna Change the World" Richard?"

Well sort of. This album shared a lot of tracks with "Close to you" where two tracks weren't produced by George Martin

I can't comment on what is going to be released when at the moment this is for the estate to decide with EMI. As for the Spanish version of Only Once the problem is with these tracks is that they are not owned by EMI but by a company called SEI.

They have no plans to physically re-release Matt's album as they do not think it would sell - However it is possible to download it from iTunes and some other download stores. It's just a pity that the compressed audio of the vast majority of these sites is not as good as a CD.

I am surprised that Robert gave only 8 out of 10 for "I've grown accustomed to her face"--it is just about the best version, I can remember hearing.

There are 2 songs on the album that I just do not like, no matter who sings them, and they are "September Song" and "Autumn Leaves", but every other song I really like a great deal, especially Matt's version of those songs.

As I've mentioned before, I would like for We're Gonna Change The World album to be reissued because the cover is stronger than Close To You.

I agree Marian regarding IGATHF (a song I never liked until I heard Matt Monro sing it), but disagree with September Song and Autumn Leaves---two of my favourite songs by Matt Monro. I just like the songs too.

I must admit Marian I agree with you on "September Song", I have never liked this song either.

Thanks for the info Richard.

I'm afraid the song I don't particularly like is "I've Grown Accustomed to her Face"- just never liked the song much.
However, I do like "September Song" and especially "Autumn Leaves." :D

Surprised that some do not like "September Song" or "Autumn Leaves". I have to admit, though, that Matt's version of "September Song "is the only one I've heard, but it's surely one of his best. I am perhaps less keen on "IGATHF", and it's always seemed more of a talky song than a singy song (didn't Rex Harrison do it in his "talking" style?): don't hate it but don't love it either. All three songs were recorded by that other wondrous warbler, Johnny Mathis, and I particularly like his version of "Autumn Leaves" - more dramatic and operatic than Matt's.

I think it was Rex Harrison that originally put me off "IGATHF" Jon. Actually, I've never liked "My Fair Lady" either, so maybe it all stems from that. I quite like "On the Street Where you Live" though.

I cannot tell you how many times I watched "My Fair Lady"--George had 4 favourite musicals that he really loved , and we saw them over, and over--

"Oliver" "Fiddler on the Roof" " Sound of Music" and "My fair lady"

I love ALL the musicals you have listed Marian.
I play tunes and sequences from all sorts of movie musicals on dvd to my munchkins.
If you are interested I can tell you their favourite songs...

'Oliver' from 'Oliver'
'The Lonely Goat Herd' from Sound of Music
'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' from the same
'The Surry With A Fringe On Top' from Oklahoma
'Don't Rain On My Parade' from Funny Girl
'Make 'Em Laugh' from Singing In The Rain
plus some others!

I love "Oliver" as well Gray. There are some great songs in this, probably my favourite "As Long As He Needs Me" sung by Shani Wallace. There were so many famous faces amongst the cast as well, just with small parts, including Hylda Baker, Megs Jenkins and Peggy Mount to name but a few.
I love "The Sound of Music" as well, probably my favourite song in this is "Climb Every Mountain" sung by Peggy Wood.
