Sorry not to agree with you over "My Fair Lady" Marian, but I do like "Oliver" and "The Sound of Music" and also "Chitty".
I like the American musicals too, "Carousel" especially, and "Oklahoma," "South Pacific", also "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
I think my favourite British musical is "Blood Brothers," but then I also loved "Les Miserables" if this can be classed as British, and "Phantom" and of course "Joseph."

Personally, I like most musicals, and can watch them over and over--it was just George who had those 4 particular favourites.

I love My Fair Lady and feel it contains some of the best music ever written for a musical. I also love Bye Bye Birdie, Mr Wonderful, The Music Man, The Sound Of Music, South Pacific, Hello Dolly, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Oklahoma, and Paint Your Wagon.

Yesterday, Sarah Kennedy played Climb Every Mountain by Lesley Garrett and it was beautiful.

Oh, one more, Paul, I'd love to see the movie version of Bye Bye Birdie with Ann Margret but I don't think it's out on dvd over here :(

My kids love the barn raising sequence in Seven Brides... also. :)

Just referring back for a moment to the earlier comments about the albums "Close to You"and "We're Gonna Change the World".
I just wondered what Paul meant earlier about the album cover of "Change the World" being "stronger" than "Close to You"?
I see the two tracks on "Change the World" not produced by George Martin are "We're Gonna Change the World" and "If There Ever is a Next Time," and all the tracks on the album, apart from "Close to You," were recorded in England.

Look at the two covers on discography area of this website. The cover for We're Gonna Change The World is much more clear than Close To You. It's an excellent photo of Matt Monro on WGCTW. It may be the same photo on CTY, but there's more of the model and it's hazy. I want to see more of Matt Monro than the model. So the WGCTW cover is stronger and more striking. 8) Plus we get two more songs on WGCTW. So please release WGCTW and not CTY whenever this reissue happens.

Sorry, Robert, for the delay in posting my ratings on The Late Late Show songs. I haven't had dedicated time to listen critically yet. For obvious reasons, I will only be listening to Matt Monro tomorrow. So I will listen to the album two times in the late late evening and post my song ratings next week. :)

Thanks for the explanation Paul. I only have "We're Gonna Change the World," so couldn't really compare the actual covers. I do however have a bid on "Close to You" on ebay at the moment!
I'll take a look at the discography pics.
An album of "WGCTW" just sold for £11.55, so I think there is every possibility a CD release would sell successfully. :D :D

I'm pretty sure the photos are the same Paul, it's just the quality and editing of the pics on the discography section that make them look different. Sorry to disappoint, but the girl is all there on "WGCTW" too!!!
However, the extra number of tracks would be a bonus. :D :D

Yes, I know the model is on WGCTW, but there's less of her and more of Matt on WGCTW than CTY. You'll notice this on the discography.

It may look like that on the discography Paul, but on the actual album sleeve, it is the same photograph as "Close to You", including all the girl's head too.

I have listened to The Late Late Show masterpiece several times and have come up with my ratings. I'm taking everything into consideration regarding the recording (arrangement, vocals, orchestra), but not my personal feelings for the song. I consider a rating of 10 to mean the recording is perfection; there is absolutely nothing I would change. A rating of 10+ means the song is perfect and it goes beyond perfection by adding something additional that is simply remarkable. These "9" and "10" rated songs are clearly amongst the greatest recordings of all time.

If She Should Come To You.....................8/10
When I Fall In Love.................................7/10
Maria.......................................................8/10
Hello Young Lovers..................................7/10
September Song....................................10+/10
Time After Time.......................................10/10
This Is All I Ask....................................... 10+/10
I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face........10/10
Days of Wine and Roses..........................6/10
The Shadow of Your Smile.......................10+/10
Autumn Leaves.........................................9/10
The Party's Over.......................................8/10

My total score is 103.

Maria would be a "9" if the guitars were included in the interlude as they are in the mix on Through The Years CD compilation. I had to stop listening to Days of Wine and Roses as with each listen it dropped a point. Usually I love Matt's slight modifications of the melody, but they didn't work for me on this song. And the arrangement with a key change isn't connecting with me. I prefer the Henry Mancini recording. I believe the same person arranged Hello Young Lovers; Matt's sustained closing high note helped it secure a "7" rating. Autumn Leaves would be a "10" if the tempo was a hair faster. I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face has to be a "10" because I never liked the song until I heard Matt Monro's version; I love his "good morning!". We all love the breathtaking Time After Time. And I don't have the words to describe my three 10+ songs and what they mean to me and the impact on my life: September Song, The Shadow Of Your Smile, and This Is All I Ask.

What a wonderful review, Paul.
I just about agree with everything you've said as well, though 'Hello Young Lovers' would get a higher score than 7!
