The image of the archive tapes is fascinating Richard. Only wish it was a little larger so we could read the detail.
Nice knowing these two releases are there anyway, and to see what you started with!

To be honest a detailed picture wouldn't be that enlightening. The Reel to Reel tapes say very little or nothing on the boxes and the Cassettes simply have track listings.

The Reels are all Jingles and the cassettes are Manila 66, Manila 83, Australia 84 and one other - Possibly Eurovision.

Manila 66, (and many other things such as the tracks I restored on Rare Monro) come from cassettes copied from reel to reel tapes. Unfortunately the reels have been lost in the mists of time (Probably not returned from where they were copied in the 1980's) so the cassette copies are all we have. Saying that, for it's time it was well recorded considering it was a mono soundboard feed. There were quite a few problems cleaning this one up! I'll post some technical info on my site when i finally have time to update it!

Manila 83 is a second generation cassette with lots of technical problems - making much of it unusable, the best four tracks are on Yesterday.

Australia 84 is the original soundboard tape from 1984 and is in terrific condition. the only problem with it was (besides the limitations of cassette tape) that the mix was not designed with a recording in mind - it was literally what came out of the PA speakers on the night, so was pretty unbalanced - the audience would have had direct sound from the band too - so although very little restoration was required, a lot of time was spent trying to re-balance the sound and make a far more pleasant listening experience. Whilst it is no mean perfect I hope you will all enjoy it!

Richard

I am sure we will enjoy anything Richard as long as Matt is in it. And I am also sure that we are all extremely grateful of all the time and effort you put into it all, the results are just terrific. :D

I have lots of recordings from line taps and although they have the limitations you describe-with your technical wizadry and expertise evident on the Night Owl albums,we are in for more exciting stuff-WOW! :D
