Great song, love the quirky lyrics ~ who cares what it's about as it scans so well! Every time I hear it I get a big smile on my face. This is a tribute to Matt's undoubted ability in delivering those quick fire lyrics so effortlessly. And PLEASE can someone tell me who played bass on it? As a musician I admire the way that it flows and propels the song. Awesome!

I heard that too--but I thought she said something about going back to 1996---or was I still dreaming ????

Just wondered if it was Matt Jnr's version with his dad? :D That was from 1995/96.

I do not think it was that version-but possibly Sarah thought it was. That would explain it.

Have just been playing the bass with the cd copping all those little nuances. It has got to be one of my all time favourite tracks. All I need now is to find a band to play it with.......

Hi Dave

Would you be able to work out the chords please?
If so, you've got me on rhythm guitar :)

It's always sounded to me like the drummer is having the best time on this track.

I hear Sarah Kennedy say 1996 as well. I though perhaps she had read 1969 wrong, but it wasn't released until 1970 anyway!

I'm sure the drummer is enjoying himself but not only is the bass player doing the same but applying a far greater imprint (to me) on the track. But I'm listening to it from a bass player's point of view. The chords shouldn't be a problem. It moves around quite a lot, the first three verses being in C modulating to Eb with the fourth verse moving up to D and modulating to F. I'll work them out and post them.

These are more or less the chords. Each chord letter and / denotes 1 beat.
Intro

Verses 1 2 & 3

G#/G#m/ Eb/Cm/ Fm/Bb/ G/Em/ Am/Dm/ G/Em/ Am/ D///// G/// G/// G///
G///
Chorus 1
C/// Caug/// F/// D/// C/// Caug/// F/// D/// C/// Am/// Dm/// G/// C///
C/// * C/// G/// ( * D/// A/// after 3rd verse instead of C & G )
Verse 4
D/D7/ G/Gm/ D/Bm/ E/A/ D/D7/ G/Gm/ D/ Bm/ Em/ A//////C F/F7/ Bb/Bbm/
F/Dm/ Gm/C/ A/F#m/ Bm/E/ A/// F#m/// Bm/// E/// A/// A/// A/// A///

As you are all 'regulars' maybe this question has been asked before?
I was thinking about Matts film songs and suddenly thought about one that I only have on a single. It is called 'Pretty Polly' from the film of the same name starring Hayley Mills. As the name implies it really is a pretty tune too.
Has anyone come across it on other than a single?
Thanks Sandra.
