Matt CDs at HMV

Post by maureen & harry » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:15 pm

Yesterday we had one of our shopping visits to Manchester and of course had to do our HMV Matt inspection.

The largest of the two stores had the following CDs on display.

Words & Music £10
The Complete Singles Collection £19
The Greatest
The Best of Matt Monro
En Espana
Matt Sings, Nelson Swings
A Time For Love
Matt Sings The Standards
Matt At the Movies
This Is The Life/Here's To My Lady

DVDs on display : A Portrait Of
An Evening With

The smaller Store's selection available was somewhat disappointing as the only CD they had in the section was Matt At The BBC. Regarding DVDs, the Index Card was there with Matt's name on but no DVDs were there.

Our local Store has not had any CDs for 3 or 4 weeks although the Index Card is still there. In the past they have had on most occasions had 4 or 5 CDs on display and perhaps this is just a stock problem.

:D

Funnily enough I was in HMV Tunbridge Wells on Monday, and I was surprised how many Matt cds were there--much more than normal--but I cannot recall them--but I would estimate about 10 different ones.

The bigger stores always seem to have a better variety of Matt's cd's, sometimes in our local one you are lucky to find two or three.

Maureen and Harry -- I think I may have asked this before. Are both HMVs still open in Manchester? I'm talking about the two that are only a few steps away from each other on that street with the department stores (can't recall the name of the street). I thought they would have closed that small one by now.

Rereading Maureen & Harrys post, it certainly sounds as though both stores are open, as they mention both different selections.

Have you noticed that the 'easy listening' section is now under the heading of 'specialist music' :?

Our branch only carries a few titles but following Max's early advise we always pop them to the front

Yes Paul we can tell you exactly where the HMV Stores are in Manchester.

There is still the large store on Market Street going towards Piccadilly Gardens. The department store which is diagonally opposite to HMV is Debenhams.

There used to be a smaller HMV store further down Market Street but this has now closed down (it was not far from the big Marks & Spencers Store). However there is quite a large HMV store now in the Arndale Centre which can be accessed through Market Street and we sometimes refer to this one as the smaller store.

Hope this answer helps you Paul and we will update you if anything changes. :D :D

Sandra, we do the same as you and pop them to the front! :D :D

I was wondering why I was having trouble locating the "easy listening" section, until I found it in the "Specialist music"--I had no idea it was the same in every HMV-i just thought it was my store being difficult. !!!

Oh, this is news! Specialist music. I don't think I like it. But then easy listening was too general and I would think of the fabulous instrumental music like Percy Faith. In the US, Tower Records would use Vocals, which seemed to fit. I guess Specialist includes everything that's not classical, opera, rock & pop, R & B, rap, country, jazz, world. But jazz and world may be Specialist too. I guess I'll find out in September when I look for Syd Lawrence music!

Thanks for the explanation Maureen and Harry. I was asking about that little HMV on Market that you report has now closed. I would always find some gems there. But I liked the other Market St one too. The HMV location at Trafford is pretty good. I love that mall and the Bhs Home Store there. I think it's Bhs, but M & S may have a home store too.

We went into our local HMV Store today and they still have an Easy Listening Section. Unfortunately, there weren't any Matt CDs but they have TWO index cards so hopefully the stock is on its way.

Next time you go in guys, ask HMV if they are re-ordering. Maybe that will jeer them up!

We will be in the town next week so will definitely call into the HMV store and ask about the CDs.

This is only a small store so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it is not one of those that has been earmarked for closure

I was in HMV Tunbridge Wells today--probably not one of the largest HMV stores, but I was delighted to see that they had 10 different Matt cd's, including at least 3 different box sets.

I did not get chance to list them all, but i will try next time--taking a pen and notepad might help. !!
