MATT ON 78'S

Post by karl » Sat Sep 08, 2012 9:56 pm

As a youngster I remember my aunt & uncle having some of Matt's early 45's on the red Parlophone label, I wondered if any of Matt's records were released on 78 by that label?.

I remember when I started buying records you could buy a single on 78 or 45 but 78's were being phased out.

The only UK release by Matt on 78 were for Decca and Fontana.

HOWEVER! We do know that there were Parlophone 78's issued in the Philippines right up to 1966, Some would have been red label, others have black and yellow labels. These are as rare as hens teeth. They were made for areas of the country that had no electricity and still used wind up gramophones (There are Beatles 78's from India that were made for the same reason). They wouldn't have been made in great numbers though.

Michele has been able to find a few of these, but very few survive.

Thanks for that Richard, amazing to think 78's were still being released in 1966. I wonder if "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" was released on 78 in the Phillipines? :)

I have no idea if it was just EMI doing this or if Philips and other companies did too!
