Matt Monro & Nat Temple

Post by paul jh » Wed Jun 25, 2008 2:17 am

Matt Monro was mentioned by Malcolm Laycock this past Sunday. He played It's The Talk Of Town by the Joe Daniels Band. Malcolm reported that Nat Temple (the clarinet soloist) died recently---a few weeks before his 95th birthday. (His wife Freda of 62 years passed away in 2005.) Malcolm said he was an outstanding clarinetist and played with many greats, including Matt Monro. I wonder what MM songs feature Nat Temple? :?:

The following is a brief excerpt from Nat Temple's obituary that appeared in the Daily Telegraph.

"The list of singing stars for whom he provided accompaniment stretched from Hoagy Carmichael in the late 1940s to Eartha Kitt and Matt Monro in the 1960s and Mel Tormé in the 1970s."

So, was Nat a member of the Johnny Spence orchestra in the 60's, I wonder :?:
