Converting Others to Matt's music....

I'm just a "yank" that's been hooked on Matt's music for several years now. People get into my car (my audi a8 with a great sound system) and after a bit of driving they ask me......"who is this great singer?".....and I answer that it is the immortal Matt Monro! They then ask "who?" I say you know....the guy who sang the theme song to the Bond movie "from russia with love". Most of them catch on, but not all of them. My significant other, Karen, is a Sinatra lover - nothing wrong with that. But recently on a 15 hour drive where she dozed most of the way, I played Matt's music.....and she commented on his performance. She said...Oh My God....He is so Clear.....So concise......his pronounciation.....it's like poetry. And....he never seem's to run out of breath....!!!!

She has since admitted becomming a Matt-fan! And now she is trying to convice some of her friends to do the same.

I have seen only a part of documentary about Matt on U-Tube, where it describes his difficult upbringing. He is truly a remarkable human being who transcends borders and age groups.

I just purchased a new Matt CD that I've been playing all evening. Just when I think I've heard it all.....this incredible man shows me I haven't heard anything yet. What a voice, what an accent, what a diction!

Is it any wonder that the Great Frank Sinatra called Matt the "singer's singer"? All of his talent being purely natural, no training - that is truly amazing! He is - in his own arena - in the same class a Pavarotti is to Opera! This in NOT an exageration....

There are many people out there who think they can sing. But I challenge them......try to sing with such ease, clarity, and endurance as Matt does! Very few if any people can do it. Matt is in a class by himself.

I miss him Very Much! He represents the golden age of the sixties! A time that I wish I could go back to. Sincerely....Jeff from America!!!!!!!

That's a wonderful tribute to Matt Jeff. So pleased to hear you are spreading the word about Matt's great singing talents further afield in the U.S.
Keep up the good work. :D :D

We all agree (on here) with everything you say Jeff.........................not surprisingly :) :) it's just a great pity that not more Americans know about the enormously talented Matt Monro................the worlds greatest singer :D :D

I'm in the process of "converting" my daughters to Matt's music. I have a multi-disc CD player in the car and there is always
a Matt Monro CD in one of the slots. I started out playing songs they knew by Frank Sinatra to get them familiar with Matt.
Now when I play one of his CD's, they say "Oh, that's Matt Monro". Just doing my part here in the States!

You are doing a great job Don. We are lucky enough to have several Forum members from USA, and other parts of the world on this forum. It is always interesting to see your input.

Hi Don ,et al Monrovians..
At the risk of being branded a fanatic, I must say that I felt a little like a born-again Christian when the
fog of popular music mediocrity lifted from around my head the night I heard the one and only Matt Monro in magnificant stereo.
Up until then ,though I had always liked his style, I had only heard his voice through a tiny five inch speaker in an old mono radio.
Now I can't get enough.
No Sinatra..No Martin..No Bennett....I'm having NONE of 'em.
My wife, though English born, cannot understand my passion.........OK.
My two teenage daughters ..well what can I say...musical maturity is still a long way off for them.
But when I'm dead and gone, my Matt Monro CD's will still be here, and (Goddam it..I'm having a "Softly as I leave you.." played at my funeral), someone
someday will put one on and say "Geez the old boy wasn't such a fruit-cake after all"
And the fog will finally lift from above them as well..
Viva Monro
Greg
