Has there been any effort made to obtain TV footage (if available) of Matt's TV appearances? I was looking at the listing and it looks like, at least here in the good ole' USofA, he made many appearances. Would any of those appearances be available to the public? It would be a nice thing if someone could combine all his USA appearances into one DVD at least. Over here they seem to always be coming out with DVDs of some performer who appeared on national TV through the years and is no longer with us, such as Red Skelton, Jack Benney, Perry Como, etc. One company comes to mind, Sony who has done this. Over here, they are offering a DVD of all the comedians who appeared on the Johnny Carson program through the years. Why not the singers?

A couple of years before The Beatles, Matt appeared a couple of times on Ed Sullivan, I think in 1961 ? (I recall a very short clip of him singing Georgia On My Mind on a TV set in an American hotel a few years ago which i'm sure came from Sullivan) , almost unknown for a British pop act pre Mersey Beat. I know here in Europe many Sullivan show excerpts have been released on compilation DVDs, but I have yet to find Matt on one of them, (I may have missed it if he has already)

A few emails to friends stateside has also revealed that Matt was a guest on a few of those US variety type shows back in the early 60s, hopefully these tapes in some form or another will surface one day, but unfortunately complete shows from that era are rare. Many great performances from the likes of Sinatra, Crosby, Nat Cole etc have been lost in the archives of TV companies, but hope does lie in the collections of affiliates and private hands, where second and third generation copies sometimes come to light.
