Con Mi Cancion (I Write the Songs)

Post by Glenn » Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:57 pm

Hello everyone

I've just heard Matt's recording for the first time and once again this man's vocal has made this 40+ guy have tears in his eyes.... a wonderful recording, Matt's unique sound gets to me every time...I just wish Matt had taken the time to record it a second time in English...

#It's from me, it's for you
It's from you, it's for me
It's a worldwide symphony#

Hi,

Whilst Matt never recorded the song in English in the studio, he did perform it regularly live. Search out Live In Australia.

Of course, a great song written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys. :D :D

I watched BBC2s' musical acknowledgement of MGM Studios'
75th anniversary last night. Although I thought that the arrangements
of all the great songs were superb, I was disappointed by the standard
of the vocalists taking part, especially the two crooners. I yearned
for the full-throated, vocal quality Matt would have provided.
I think Matt's performances of the songs from the musical theatre are
unequalled, and the thought occurred to me that a CD entitled
Matt Sings MGM would be a very welcome addition to his oeuvre.
The title certainly rolls off the tongue.
Food for thought, Michele?

A good idea Keith............but a lot of musicals were not made by MGM, including all the Rogers and Hammersteins classics ie South Pacific, Carousel, Oklahoma and The King and I................and many many more famous musicals too  :)

You are right, of course, Robert. There are not enough MGM
produced songs in Matt's songbook to comprise an album
of the magnitude Michele always compiles. Maybe a collection
entitled, Matt Monro's Musical Theatre could be created.
I adore Matt's versions of I have Dreamed, Singin' in the Rain,
Somewhere, Wish Upon A Star et cetera.

Maybe you're thinking of the 3cd box set "Matt at the Movies" Marian?
