September Song
September Song
I always look forward to September, when I listen to September Song by Matt Monro almost every day. How superb is this recording and Matt Monro's vocals!?! I try to save it for September each year, but occasionally sneak in a few listens in May and November too!

What's wrong with dreary? Life can get dreary so why not have songs about it?
I guess I was never bothered by dreary lyrics, because lyrics are about tenth in importance for me. The melody, chording, rhythm, and key are all more important than the lyrics.
I still feel September Song is the best song about September. Its melody and chords are haunting yet lovely. Second best is definitely "See You In September" made very popular by The Happenings from New Jersey in the 1960s. They still perform and I saw them on a cruise ship a couple years ago. I also like September In The Rain, especially by George Shearing, and September Morn by Neil Diamond. Even though they're one of the best groups ever, I just don't like Marian's favourite "September" by Earth Wind & Fire.

Hello all. I think we have been getting our songs mixed up between "September Song" and "Autumn Leaves". The subject went onto Autumn Leaves, and that is the song I remember sung by Nat King Cole. Then somehow September Song came back into the conversation. Of the two songs I prefer Autumn Leaves, as Matts rendition is FABULOUS

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Big surprise ... I definitely prefer September Song. Of course, I like his version of Autumn Leaves but it won't make the top 20 of my favourite Matt Monro songs. The tempo is just a tad too slow for me. But Matt Monro Jnr loves Autumn Leaves. Actually I play the best version of Autumn Leaves, but none of you have heard that.
