It's on the excellent 4 CD set The Singer's Singer. Or you can wait and purchase the two on one EMI CD release planned for 2007 of the original albums The Long And Winding Road and Close To You.

The Long And Winding Road

If you are ever able to get hold of an LP titled "If I Never Sing Another Song" (EMI Records, SCX 6605, 1979), and still have a turntable, you will find the song "The Long And Winding Road" on side two. This is a great album, which also contains:

With These Hands
You Light Up My Life
Answer Me
I Think I'm Getting Over You
When A Child Is Born
If I Never Sing Another Song
The Long And Winding Road
May Each Day
Morning Has Broken
By Her Side
Mary's Boy Child
The Last Farewell

Michele - Why don't you talk EMI into re-releasing this great album on CD? All of us would love it. (I have alread converted it into a CD for my own use, but others would appreciate it).

Long & Winding Road

Post by Michele Monro » Sat Oct 21, 2006 12:00 am

I am gradually trying to re-release all the older albums to CD. Last year we released several "Twon on Ones" and next year will see "Long & Winding Road and Close to You" which is coming out in October 2007.

With all the new projects I have to be careful not to overload the market, otherwise what would I have to bring out in 2008/2009.

Enjoy the music

Great more Matt Monro albums on CD! Hopefully they will all be issued on day. I read that there are also plans for a 2on1 Spanish set with two Spanish albums from Matt in Spring 2007! I hope this will include some never released to CD tracks.

Over the weekend, I studied very closely the Matt Monro discography in The Singer's Singer 4 CD and book. I couldn't find a listing for the album Close To You anywhere. I did see a listing and album photo of We're Gonna Change The World, with an excellent picture of Matt Monro in a brown shirt and his name and "We're Gonna Change The World" in a very period font. It's one of the best covers.

Just now I was checking the discography on this website and saw an album cover that looked very similar to "We're Gonna Change The World", but the photo is not as clear or powerful. This album was called "Close To You" and has the same songs as "We're Gonna Change The World", but the A and B sides are reversed. Very confusing! Perhaps this was a regional release and that's why it's not listed in The Singer's Singer.

Anyway, why can't the album "We're Gonna Change The World" be released on the two-albums-on-one-CD with "The Long And Winding Road"? The cover is stronger and "We're Gonna Change The World" is one of his greatest and classic hits. I realise the songs are the same, but the album cover and title are so important and "We're Gonna Change The World" means so much to all Matt Monro fans.

Can only do this from memory as I haven't got he album handy, and it isn't going to be in the correct order, but here goes anyway
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
ONLY ONCE
DID IT HAPPEN
SUNDAY KIND OF WOMAN
FRIEND,LOVER, WOMAN,WIFE
READY STEADY GO
YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD
HAPPY
CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU
I CLOSE MY EYES AND COUNT TO TEN
THE AUCTION
ALL THE WISHING IN THE WORLD
hope this helps you.
