In "Man with the Golden Voice", George Martin mentions that Matt recorded one of his songs "There's a Place". I can find no listing for this anywhere. Can anybody give me any information ?

Just wondered if this refers to the song "Somewhere" Frederick, which begins "There's a place for us....

I don't think so Marian. George Martin refers to it as one of "his" songs and Somewhere is of course from West Side Story. Somebody must know something about it !!

Didn't really think it would be Frederick.
If you go to AOL Music, they list a song entitled "There's A Place" by George Martin, recorded by The Beatles, amongst other artistes.

Thanks Marian, I did get some information from AOL as you suggested. This track was included in a number of Beatles recordings and in particular on the LP (and later CD) "Please Please Me". Perhaps Michele could tell us what ever happened to the recording made by Matt ?

"There's a Place" by the Beatles is a Lennon & McCartney song only Produced by George Martin.
Michele would be the only one able to answer if her Dad recorded a song of that title. George Martin did compose alot of things (many of which have never been released) and a previously unreleased Demo of a song:
"Two Matt Monro songs which were co-written by George Martin: 'Can This Be Love' and an unreleased demo version of 'No One Will Ever Know'. (1961)"
appeared on a CD with George's Autobiography published by Genesis Publications as a limited edition called "Playback". I would love to have had a copy myself (being a bit of a George Martin freak - Once found myself in the same room as him but did not feel worthy to speak to him!) but at £375 per copy was a bit out of my league! (it's sold out now anyway!)

This track has been released on two CD's
"Love is the Same Anywhere"
"My Kind of Girl"
also on the LP's of the same name as well as "Softly as I Leave You"
December's update will see a new list added of where you can find every song that has been released. I am only including LP & CD. Eventuall Murph will link it up to a direct order site for the ones still available. That should make it easier for everybody.

I've looked on the LPs/CDs mentioned and I still can't see "There's a Place". Maybe I should lie down in case I'm finally going mad !
