Your favourite Matt de-stress track

Post by michduncg » Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:55 pm

Following on from some comments in the 'September Song' thread, I thought I'd ask you all what your favourite Matt track is to wind-down to. Some of Matts songs really tug at the heart strings, many are truly emotional and I don't find I can always switch off to them. For me his version of 'Lets face the music and dance' is pure bliss - happy, light and sung beautifully of course. And if you've had a bad day just sing along

Right of to bed now!!
Michael

I have so many Matt Monro songs to help me de-stress. Right now I have a headache after all day meetings and not sleeping well last night. The song I really want to hear is For All We Know. He sings it so gently. And I don't have it with me. I need to buy another copy of my favourite Matt Monro CDs and keep a copy at work!

When I get home late tonight after a rehearsal, I will play For All We Know and have a cup of mint soother tea.

Ooh! Mike--lots of these to choose from.

I loved Pauls choice--a great song, beautifully sung.

But for a lovely tune, superbly sung--for me, it has to be-

"And we were lovers"

Hi Jon

Great choice of subject this, Matt Monro is as good as a pill to help me relax at the end of the day! :)
The songs mentioned already are good ones, and I must add 'Hello Young Lovers' which has been getting some stick on this household since I started back at work!
Can I also put foward 'Memphis in June' & 'I Only Miss Her, When I Think Of Her' too.

Paul, pour me a cup of Mint tea too, please. :)

I have no favourite song to wind down to as they are all first class, the only song that I have difficulty in listening to is "If I never Sing another song" as the lyrics make me very emotional.

Hello everyone. My own personal favourite is Walk into the Dawn. It's a little known song but featured on the Rare Monro. I don't need any self help material when I listen to this. I first heard it on the EP Walk Away more than 40 years ago and it still sends a tingle down my spine. Matt's music doesn't have a "sell-by date" .....it's forever.
The voice of Matt Monro is part of my life. I take his music with me wherever I go.

I think for me it would have to be PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE and perhaps the lovely ALL THAT REMAINS. These are two lovely relaxing songs, I think. There are many more, also, of course. 8)

Portrait Of My Love for me too.

There is just something about this recording that has the capability to erase practically every concern or worry from ones mind, maybe because like any truly beautiful piece of music it bypasses the conscious self and speaks directly to the soul.

Nice sentiments Marty 8) Two songs I would mention in this category off the top of my head are "SKYLARK" and " I GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU VERY WELL" but there are numerous Matt songs I could have chosen :D :D Just edited this post, as I have realised both song are Hoagy Carmichael songs 8) 8)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

And so is "Rockin' Chair" Robert, which always has me thinking of Mose Harper from the John Ford film "The Searchers" who's only wish in life is such a chair and a warm fire, but whethre fireside or on a summer balcony any of the Hoagy numbers Matt excels at would be perfect relaxation.

I love you too - call me an old fashioned romantic, but I love the simplicity and breeziness of this smashing track. Its what being in love is all about
