Matt on Radio 2 tonight...

Post by Gray » Fri Mar 16, 2007 10:42 pm

Hi everyone

Matt got a nice mention on radio 2 tonight, half way into an Anthony Newly tribute.
There was a little section on British successes in Vegas, Matt was included along with Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Sheena Easton & Shirley Bassey. 'Born Free' was played.

Hi Mike, I have a vague recollection of Sheena Easton moving to the U.S. and being quite successful over there. I believe.

Yes - I do too Marian - think she was involved with the 'Artist' formerly known as Prince once. I saw her on a TV chat show not long and she seemed to think that British had treated her unfairly - that we only know her as the 'Girl that won the Big Time'. Maybe we did - but look where it got her! Not like dear old Fanny Craddock who had her career killed off by 'The Big Time'!

Anyway - glad Matt got an airing on R2 tonight! Nobody sings 'Born Free' like Matt :D

Did you see that docu/drama on Fanny Craddock's story not that long ago Mike? It might even have been discussed a the time on the forum.
I'm old enough to remember her programmes. They were a seriously weird couple!  Really entertaining to watch though.

Marian
Of course I agree about Matt.

Sheena Easton changed a lot after she moved to US--I loved her first 2 songs---"Modern Girl" and "9 to 5" aka Morning Train.

She got a different look over there--which I personally did not like--nor did I like ths songs she sang--with 1 exception--The James Bond Theme "For Your Eyes Only" But , yes, she became very popular over in Us---she had a duet with Kenny Rogers-cannot remember the title right now. As far as I know she lives there now-it is a long time since I have seen or heard her.

Who could forget Fanny Craddock, lipstick, powder and paint and with the aid of a trowel, those face wrinkles filled in with fullers earth. and asking the kitchen assistants if they knew of what's the best thing to do with a trout, and poor old henpecked Johnny standing there with a constipated look and knowing the answer right away.

It was those piercing eyes I remember, and her drawn in eyebrows like McDonald's arches half way up her forehead!
Johnny hovering in the background slurping the wine, I should think he needed it!!!
