I have something in mind that I would very much like the fans to be part of, it is a secret at the moment but if those attending 'Fans Reunited' would like to be involved I would ask that you bring a candle with you, one that is capable of standing up on its own and not one that has to be held – enough said.

That sounds intriguing---can it be a candle--like a scented candle in a container ??

Very intriguing- and is that a candle EACH or per couple?

The candle can be coloured, scented, any shape or size but it must be able to stand up without assistance. It can be one that sits in a glass jar or one that comes in a tin like some you find in supermarkets. It can simply be a candle without any holder as long as the bottom is wide enough for it to sit upright on its own. Your choice.

This is not obligatory, it is just something a staunch fan might like to be involved in.... but it is a bit like a leap of faith.... I'm not saying anymore than that until the event. But please note ...... only those bringing a candle on the evening will be included, I will not accept them later. It can certainly be one per couple or one each, it is totally up to the individuals.

Maybe it's in case there's a power cut!!

Or maybe, we have to join into groups--pretend to be the "Two Ronnies" and ask each other for "Four candles".

We've got a couple of emergency candles from WW2 ...honest. all part of our museum
We would light the wick and melt the candle grease on to a saucer so it would stand up, but I promise we won't bring those with us. or the nightlights.

I have a few candles left from the power cut strikes in the mid -seventies!! Will a H+S Risk Assessment have to be undertaken?

We remember those power cuts in the Seventies and three hours of playing Blind Mans Buff, but as far as a risk assessment, unfortunately we didn't keep the candle snuffers but maybe we'll have the local fire service on alert.

The coal strikes were around 1972. I was in Prep School in Yorkshire at the time, I was a boarder and after supper we would gather round a old upright piano singing methodist hymns! Anything to get out of nightly two hour (prep) homework. Cold baths and cross country runs were the order of the day .....Tom Brown School days ,indeed!!

I remember I was working at the time, and coming home was really frightening, as it was so difficult to see if you had stopped at a station--or just signals !

Goodness me, !!! Cold showers !!! that would cause a riot with those serving in HM Prisons today.

The cold baths were only on a sunday. The headmaster made sure your head was fully submerged in the water(we wore swimming trunks) and we only spent two minutes each in water. Harsh compared to private schools these days.
