I've just had all five discs of this set on random on my multi disc player while catching up on some reading. I haven't , of course, heard every track but some songs just seemed to leap out of the speakers. The fullness of the sound is breath taking , bringing out elements I just don't remember hearing before.

Here are some notes I scribbled -

Disc One .

'I'll Know Her ' - gorgeous piano sound, moving vocals. A Ron Goodwin arrangement - from a film , maybe?

'Love Walked In ' - more lovely piano, not so noticable before.

Disc Two.

'Start Living' - great , precise drum sound. Matt's more upbeat recordings have rarely been my favourites but this really works.

Disc Three.

' Fourth Blue Monday' - surprisingly funky sound, great mix of bass and brass.

'Only The Night Wind Knows' - very effective percussion, surprisingly hard edged , strident.

Disc Four .

'Ven Mi Amour' - truly weird Spanish version of 'Wednesday's Child'. Elements of the music, especially the bass , seem out of synch with the rest of the sound. It has a kind of shifting, drifting sound which is actually kind of trippy!

Disc Five.

'Your Sensational' - fabulously clear, near solo intro vocals by Matt , just perfect.

'The Precious Moments' - a Roy Budd-tastic production , the sparkling re-master really bringing out a enormous bass intro and a truly epic brass ending.

More later!

I hope you're not going to have the same experience I had with Matt at the BBC Marian. I had to re-order as it never arrived. :(

I'm intending to buy my copy of The Singles Collection from HMV in London. I thought the release date was yeterday, 1 February, but there was no sign of it on the shelves in either Bond Street or Oxford Street. Will have to wait a bit longer, I guess.

Hope you get it soon Marian. I have been listening to disc 5 over the past couple of days, just brilliant. I haven't listened to it in order, I still have a couple of discs to listen to.

Just finished playing all the CDs (in between reading the book) and would like to say what a fantastic collection this is. The Decca recordings show that the talent was there and as you go through the recordings, the voice and style developed on this wonderful journey of these recordings of so many great songs.

The last songs Matt recorded "You Bring Out The Best In Me" was another great ballad and the B side was another example of Matt's great vocal range where he ups the tempo. This is a must buy for any fan and is excellent value for money.

The quality is again outstanding and we must say thanks to Richard.

It is a super collection Maureen and Harry. I just have one disc to listen to now, and the quality is excellent. This was the collection I always dreamed about, and now that dream has come true! Thank you Michele and Richard. :D
