Hi Paul and Robert

I've obviously entered the Matt Monro Hall of Shame for not owning the two twofers you mention. They are for sale in HMV Oxford Street (my preferred purchase location) and I've toyed with the idea of buying them but I guess I've resisted this because I already have most of the songs that are on them on other albums. I guess I will now have to rectify this or I'll be in the doghouse for years.

The only problem with those 2 0n 1 cd's is the heavy handed noise reduction and the fact that they've used the Mono mixes for This Is The Life/Here's To My Lady (don't even get me started on For The Present/Other Side Of The Stars)

Whereas (he says getting back on topic) this new set is all new transfers

Richard

You're doing a good job of persuading me NOT to buy those twofers now!

Sorry, that's not the idea. The music is great, but not exactly the best mastering!

But they are definitely worth buying for the music - especially at Amazon marketplace prices

The links on this page

will take you straight there if your interested!

Jon -- Yes, you will stay in the doghouse until you get these two twofers. I don't care a thing about the mastering or the noise reduction technology or the mono recordings. My ears aren't that good. I love having the songs in the album order and those classic covers and original liner notes (however I wish they were as large as LP covers).

The only sound thing that has ever bothered me is The Impossible Dream which I hope is much clearer on The Greatest. But no one has commented on it yet. :!: Has anyone noticed a difference?

A beautiful beautiful CD. :D
Every track is of such quality and flows along so smoothly too. :D
Like you Lena and Harry Matt manages to make the dirge like version of Bobby Gentry singing 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' sound a quality song :D
Love it all despite having listened to the titles many times before :D

Good to know that all my efforts are in vain Paul!!! :D

As I have said many time The Impossible Dream has come straight from it's original US mastertape on BOTH the singles and The Greatest.

Don't expect sonic perfection from a tape untouched in 42 years but it is 100 times better than the needledrop used since 1973.

The album has entered the charts at number 40. I am sure after the adverts this week and Mothers Day on Sunday it will rapidly climb up the charts. :D

Sales were 5929 last week. That's pretty good.

We popped into our local Tesco this morning and checked out the CD section and were pleased to see that they now have The Greatest in stock and it is number 34 in their chart.

Let's hope now that it's in the supermarket the sales will be even higher so we will keep our eye on it to see how it's doing each week.
