Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
I think the clips only ever give a few seconds anyway.
I have decided not to play any more previews, and just be patient and wait for the disc to arrive--but I just had to listen to those 2.

I have just had a look at the old thread of SONGS I WISH I COULD HEAR BY MATT---wow that was a blast from the past--fascinating reading---but I wanted to check something--and found I was correct-I had actually nominated those 2 songs myself--- "The Folks who live on the hill" and "Younger than springtime" as songs I would love to hear Matt sing--and now my wish is coming true.!!

Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Marian I am sure Matt anticipated you would want to hear him sing those two songs and went into the studio especially for you! Well it's a nice thought, isn't it?
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Wow Mariana! What a gift from our Dear Matt to you!mariana44 wrote:I have just had a look at the old thread of SONGS I WISH I COULD HEAR BY MATT---wow that was a blast from the past--fascinating reading---but I wanted to check something--and found I was correct-I had actually nominated those 2 songs myself--- "The Folks who live on the hill" and "Younger than springtime" as songs I would love to hear Matt sing--and now my wish is coming true.!!
I think I'm also going to get a thrill (probably many) on the Rarer Monro release, as I can't wait to hear him croon as only he can, "Old Devil Moon". Also, I can't wait now, to hear "The Folks Who Live On the Hill" and "Younger than Springtime", because I don't even know those songs. I wonder if they're as beautiful as "No One Will Ever Know", Matt's exquisite masterpiece recording of Sir George Martin's song. LOVE THAT!
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Lindy, Younger Than Springtime is from the musical South Pacific and The Folks Who Love On The Hill was made famous by Peggy Lee. I am sure Matt will give it that special Monro treatment!
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Thank you, Karl, for filling me in. I look forward to hearing them and all of Rarer (over and over and over again).karl wrote:Lindy, Younger Than Springtime is from the musical South Pacific and The Folks Who Love On The Hill was made famous by Peggy Lee. Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Well I've listened to all the mp3 bits of Rarer now, and all I can say is,
WOW! WOWEE WOW WOW!!!
This is going to be even better than I hoped! Thank you Matt and Mickie and Michele and Richard and musicians and engineers and producers and all involved in all of these treasures! Just the two songs from Pennies from Heaven (Did You Ever See a Dream Walking and Paper Moon) are worth the price of the CD. So many beautiful songs! So many I don't know by anybody, let alone by THE GREATEST/MY BELOVED! So many jazzy numbers, which I think Matt does better than anybody else, including Francis. Some others that took my breath away in these short snippets were "I've Got the World on a String, You're Driving Me Crazy/the Song is You", There are No Words for This, Lovin' You Again, I Hear Music, What is this Thing Called Love, You Came Along". WOW! WOWEE WOW WOW!!! Placing advance orders today!

Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Hi Lindy--those are 2 very well known songs-you may well know them when you hear them--but even if not, I know you will love them.
We were lucky enough to see Matt on dvd at last year's "Fans reunited" singing "That Old Devil Moon"--and I can assure you, it is brilliant.

Mariana, there is video of Matt singing Old Devil Moon?!?!mariana44 wrote:Hi Lindy--those are 2 very well known songs-you may well know them when you hear them--but even if not, I know you will love them.

What in the world must I do to see it, I wonder.
I did not know about the Fans Reunited event, probably couldn't have made it anyway.
So....there is more video out there that might one day be on a DVD that I can get my eyes on? So far, I've bought all DVD of Matt that I know of that is on the market. It's all UK format only, but luckily it plays on my Macbook (thank you, Apple). I cannot fathom why they haven't made Matt's videos in U.S. format, for the millions who have U.S. format DVD players (and don't own Macs....Windows is no good for this either).
Where was the Fans Reunited event? London, I suppose. Thanks
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Don't get too excited. The video was just stills to accompany the audio!
Yes it was in London last September.

Haha. You already know me, Richard. I did get excited. Thanks for clearing that up about the still images-video.Rmoore wrote:Don't get too excited. The video was just stills to accompany the audio!

London last September, would've been loverly. Sorry I missed it. I only know one other Matt fan here in America, and that is my sister. I know there must be millions here, but we don't have community about much in America, like you do in the UK. I guess there must be a topic about that event, I'll go through there some time.
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Hey LIndy,
Just a thought. You may want to invest in a all region DVD player. Local stores like Best Buy or Fry's may not carry them, but I got mine at a Japanese market so I'm able to watch DVD's from the UK. They usually run no more than a standard DVD player.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm already all set though, with UK format, on my Macbook. It's all the poor Americans who are stuck with Microsoft on their PCs, or stuck with U.S. format DVD players, who can't play Matt and all other UK format DVDs.
I imagine there are a lot of affluent older Americans who are playing Matt and other UK format DVDs, though, because they've probably got all region DVD players. I don't own a TV, haven't had one in 17 years, don't want American TV in my life, it's all too stupid. So I'm all set with my MacBook, watching Matt and other UK DVDs. And listening to LOTS of Matt!
Thanks Eman.
Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Sorry Lindy to get your hopes up, I had forgotten it was stills only.I was in a daze to be quite honest, because it was such a special day.!
But he did also sing "Too Close for Comfort"--which was something new to all of us. Not sure if it will ever be available for us fans to own--a lot of these clips are tied up in copyrights.
There is lots of info about it on the Forum, plus photos. It was last September, and we did get some fans come in from US to join us.
Plus, we had 2 others previously--about 4 years ago and 6 years ago.
There are quite a few Matt fans in US, they do not all post on the Forum, but they are out there--and it is wonderful to see how much you all appreciate our Matt.

Re: Matt Uncovered - The Rarer Monro
Thanks for the info, Mariana. I sure wish I could've been with you all there. I would have enjoyed it.
Shucks, it's EASY to appreciate your Matt. We've never had anyone so phenomenally talented + loveable in this country. We have had a few who've tried and who have had Big Backing....you know, like the American version of Matt Monro, old what's his name.....Sinatra.
Sometimes he sounded almost as good as Matt, but most of the time, not.
I know, I've compared many of the songs they both did. Haven't heard one yet that Matt didn't do better.
I guess after Matt, my second favorite singer/actor of all time is Bing. And Bing truthfully stated, with awe, that nobody ever recorded a song as perfectly as Matt recorded "I Get Along Without You Very Well." Right? Yep, Bing knew.
But if America had any class, Matt would be heard on radio all over this country. I've only heard him on radio in Minnesota, and that was in the 1960s. American radio is always pushing whatever is the latest "product". Not music, just "product".
And if there any Americans reading this, if you know of any Web radio site that plays Matt, I'd sure like to know.
Thanks
