I received my copy of "The Rare Monro" last weekend. To say I was amazed would be the understatement of the century.
It was like I was rediscovering Matt's music all over again. Not a bad thing to do! :D

Only Friends

Post by danny92 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:58 am

Hi all. Just as a precursor to a post on 'Rare', I was telling Michele that I first picked up at Matt Monro CD in a bargain bin in Sydney for $5. As a Sinatra fan, I knew most of the songs but the only one I knew of Matt's was Born Free. That was 1998 when I was 26 and now I'm a huge fan...I still have that first CD, all scratched and everything, but it still plays away grand. Best $5 ever spent. As regards 'Rare', what a fantastic album. The songs are just class and for me the stand-out track is 'Only Friends'. Every time it comes on, I have to replay it a few times. As for the excitement when I came across the DVD of the newly discovered live performance in Australia...I only hope that some more footage is either found or re-released. He played in my native Cork City (Ireland) once I believe, but that was before my time! Anyhow, keep the music playing.

Hi Danny,

Have a look at the main site http://www.mattmonro.com/cds.html

This will give you a list of everything currently available - incuding three DVD's and the BBC CD/DVD set

Lots of Matt footage on those discs.

Richard

"THE RARER MONRO" - Great News - According to Michele's "Christmas Tidings" , she states that the "Rarer Monro"
will be released on June 4, 2012 instead of September as originally announced. As she writes - "You Heard It Here First"!!
She also state that Matt's Experimental Stereo Recordings that were recently discovered are "SUBLIME".
We ALL Cannot Wait......Less than 6 months away!!

I hope it comes on time for Christmas so I could put it in his stocking. My Mom's all set I put some Celtic Thunder cd's in her stocking along. She loves them and is happy Damian McGinty is on Glee!!

And it's the release that gets discussed the most on the forum, while those various greatest hits compilations seem to get forgotten.

I haven't listened to it in a few months, and will listen to it after Christmas.
