We have just heard of the sad passing of Frankie Laine at the age of Ninety Three.
Frankie was simply in a class of his own and there will never be another to replace his style of singing and charisma.
He was one of the last of the true American italian Crooners. Not only was he a great singer and a true professional entertainer in every sense of the word but a very generous man too.
We have some wonderful memories to cherish of seeing Frankie Laine in concert Three times, and have his music to remind us of his rare talent, and a note of thanks to us both that we received from him some years ago and still have.
He was entertaining right up to a very short time ago, and will be sadly missed.

Very sad news of a great singing legend :cry: :cry: There is a nice clip of both Frankie and another "Italian Crooner" Tony Martin (still with us age 94) 8) at Youtube -under the Frankie Laine page. I tried to link it on here, but to no avail :roll:

Heard the news at lunchtime. Sad day.
I agree completely with your view Lena and Harry. Great great singer. Superb voice and a great singing style. Always loved how Frankie could use that voice of his to create such drama and tension in his singing. Such singers are unique. Very sad at his passing.

Yes Frankie's voice was unique Lee. So distinguishable, no one else could hope to sound like him. He could find that high pitched power with ease when required or sing a gentle romantic ballad that could just melt your heart. He had the talent to sing anything.
In fact last Sunday we mentioned to Eric Hall about a recording that we have of Frankie singing the old time music hall song, "The Man Who Broke The Bank At Monte Carlo." It's just brilliant. It was just a few weeks ago when we heard a live interview with Frankie on Eric Hall's show and he sounded quite frail then.
What a career he has had. we won't see the likes of him again.

Our latest edition of "In Tune " magazine is fronted by the one and only Frankie Laine, plus an excellent personal tribute from the editor Gerry Stonestreet on the life and career of the great man who enriched the lives of fans all around the world. :) :)
