Eric Hall with Jimmy Roselli.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Wed May 24, 2006 12:24 am

Today we listened to Eric Hall's Sunday programme "Monster Memories" on Radio Essex, on the playback feature and Eric was talking to the great Italian American crooner Jimmy Roselli. Eric played some of Jimmy's recordings including "You'll Never Know," "Imagination," "Careless" and the best known one of Jimmy Roselli's "When Your Old Wedding Ring Was New"
Eric then talked briefly about his singing career and asked him what music does he like listening to and he replied without hesitation Matt Monro. :) :)

Hello Lena and Harry. I have listened to the first half hour of the Eric Hall show on the - Listen Again - feature. Eric did keep mentioning Jimmy Roselli's name many times to his listeners in the first half hour, so I cannot wait to hear the rest of the programme now that you have told us about Matt Monro.

My tears will fall now that your gone :(

Hi Robert, yes Matt was mentioned several times and also by the callers to the programme, and what's more next Sunday Eric's three hour programme is going to feature none other than Frank Sinatra, not necessarily all recordings by Sinatra himself, but other artists singing the songs made famous by him, so no guesses who will be among those chosen artists and songs,  :) :)

Hello Lena and Harry and everyone. Matt Jnr is on Eric Hall's show tomorrow, which is a father's day special programme. I usually listen to it during the week on the Listen Again feature, which is excellent, I have also listened to the Desmond Carrington After Seven show's by that mean's, they have all been very interesting. Have just listened to the Andrew's Sister's show, one of the sister's is 88 year's young, but she sound's excellent.

Lena and Harry, you know Eric get's his listener's to sing song's on the air over the phone (some are really good), well have either of you two ever sung on the air. I can just hear Lena singing a song on the air. Last week they were talking about the Residential Home were Alan "Fluff" Freeman is staying and also Charlie Drake has just gone there. I didn't like it though when they were kind of making fun about Alzeimer's Disease. It is not a subject to laugh at, is it Lena and Harry. But it was still a very good show to listen too.

Do you remember Lena and Harry, when I said Eleanor Powell was in the studio getting a dance number just right for one of her film's at 2 a.m. in the morning, how could you forget, as I keep reminding you of Ellie don't I. Well I have found out that the producer/director was none other than Busby Berkley, and as you remember you made fun of it at the time, which was very funny. Well you won't believe it but the name of the film was...................................
LADY BE GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Robert, No, we have never got caught singing on any programme. After all, the listening public have done nothing to deserve having to listen to something that sounds like a cat being castrated.
We taped the Andrew Sisters from Desmond Carrington's prog but haven't listened to it yet, but we heard Ronnie Hilton's, who we know is among Desmond's favourite singers.
Robert, we agree with you One Hundred per cent that Alzheimers Disease is not something to make fun of, but we don't think that there was any harm meant in any way. Eric always comes across us as being very kind, caring and sensitive to elderly people, and so patient when they call him, and he likes giving away (presents not prizes as he calls them.
Charlie Drake and Alan Freeman are living in Brinsworth House, a nursing home for retired entertainers and professional actors and actresses where they are taken care of, through the Entertainment Artistes Benevolent Fund and mainly from Royal Variety Performances.
So Eleanor Powell was rehearsing for "Lady Be Good" with Buzby Berkely, ahh well that says it all

Hi Lena and Harry and everyone. I probably got the wrong end of the stick when Eric Hall and his guest were talking about Alzeimer's. I didn't have the sound up very high, but they were making fun about a "jigsaw", but I know how friendly and polite Eric is to his guest's. Some of whom sound a bit doddery (that's probably why I thought the two of you Lena and Harry, would fit ideally on the show)  you know i'm only kidding, don't you.
Desmond Carrington kept referring to Ronnie Hilton as his friend, all the way through the show.
I am now listening to A String Of Pearl's on the -Listen Again- feature, after watching the rather dull Croatia v. Japan match. But it's Brazil against Australia next, should be much better, hopefully.
Quite an apt title for a film for Ellie to have been rehearsing at 2 a.m. in the morning.!!!! but of course I mean she was a good as gold, and kept trying her heart out until she got the dance routine absolutely perfect. :D :D
