Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman

Post by dottie » Tue Jun 13, 2006 6:37 pm

Any other fans here of Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman..........

I have followed Meat since the early 70's and the days of Stoney and Meat Loaf, and also Popcorn Blizzard.......

I have been lucky enough to have had 4 meet and greets with Meat, various personal messages from him, and have appeared on Wembley Stage with Meat, also I starred in the Graham Norton Show, whereby Meat got into bed with me!! Also as if that wasn't enough appeared last year at Blickling Hall on stage with Meat again, and appeared in the Bad Attitude Video, filmed at the Brixton Academy...

Have also seen Meat over 50 times at various venues, and hopefully a smaller European Tour arranged for this year, early next year, will see me rocking my heart out once again, and very sadly for the last time as Meat will be retiring from them music scene (never say never, who knows)
to concentrate on his film career...

Meat has a new single out in the autum The Monster is Loose, this precedes Bat out of Hell III due for release at the end of October 2006, produced by Desmond Child and starring such artists as Brian May, and of course the Neverland Express.......

The combination of Meat and Jim's genius sadly isn't completed on this Meat's forthcoming album, although Meat has recorded some of Jims songs on this album, anyone looking for a return to the good old days of Meat and Jim could be disappointed, but knowing Meat nothing has been left to chance and I am so confident - yes I am - that this new album will be a fitting tribute to a singer who has bought so much pleasure to all his fans out there........

For many years I thought that Meatloaf and Jim Steinman were the same person. Is that true, or are they two different persons? Where are they from?

Hi Paul. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are two seperate people. Do you at least know they are from the USA. Just a little bit of information on Meat Loaf. Born 1947 in Dallas Texas, his real name is Marvin Lee Aday. He appeared as "Eddie" in the film version of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", before making it big as a recording artist in 1977 with the release of the wonderful album "Bat Out Of Hell" with the song's written by Jim Steinman, who is a truly wonderful songwriter.

I thought Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman were from your shores.

During the late 1970s and 1980s, I was listening to disco, country & western, soul, Gilbert & Sullivan, R & B, big bands, and easy listening vocalists---basically anything but pop and rock. So I know very little about Meatloaf and other pop and rock artists of this period.

Hi again Paul. You may have got the impression that they were from the UK, as Meat Loaf made it big here and in Australia, before making it big just about everywhere else.

Dottie: Yeah, I sure do like the one and only Meatloaf! Definitely one of my kind of singers! Would love to see him live but have never had the opportunity. Great post by the way, I enjoyed reading it and have to say you've been so lucky to meet Meatloaf so many times in the ways you have. As far as retirement goes, as you say, never say never so I still may get to see him yet!
I've got several albums already and I look forward to hearing all the new stuff as always. I do like the Steinman collaborations best though. I agree with you Robert - Steinman is a terrific songwriter.
regards to you both.

I'm "listening again" to Ken Bruce's Monday show on Radio 2. He just played "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth" by Meatloaf. I haven't heard or thought of this song in 20 years!

Immediately after Meatloaf, he played "You Give Me Something" by a new UK soul singer: James Morrison. He has a very interesting sound. I heard his song earlier this morning on Jo Whiley's show on Radio 1. Check him out by using the "listen again" feature for Ken Bruce's Monday show. His debut album drops at the end of July, with the single released on July 17.

I just heard "I'll Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" on Ken Bruce's programme. Is that Bonnie Tyler singing at the end of the song? I think it's someone else, but I can't remember her name.

Hi Paul. It could be Bonnie Tyler, but I doubt it. It is probably Meat Loaf's regular singing partner Patti Russo. We really need Dottie to answer this, but she has gone AWOL lately as have most of the other new member's.
The song you mention is from the early 90's.
