FINBAR WRIGHT

Post by keithgood838 » Mon Sep 01, 2008 2:33 pm

With typical modesty Matt often declared his respect for
the great tenors, referring to them as 'the real singers'.
Of course none of those 'crossovers' could match Matt's
masterful rendition of a popular song. Finbar Wright, who
was born near my home town (a handful of miles from the sea)
of Bandon, County Cork, fits into the category of classically
trained tenors who also excel at romantic ballads. He had
a number one hit in the Irish charts with a superb version
of the song, Whatever You Believe. The singer's career has
brought forth this verse:

FINBAR WRIGHT

A colours-nailed-to-mast name;
a gleaming West Cork craft upon
the open sea of fame.
We are set on separate courses,
yet our linguistic Orphean
steers me sublimely through
those out-of-the blue
buffetings by Poseidon's forces ...
