The problem with the unreleased tracks - which have been approved by DSB herself - is that Capitol do not want to release them because they have no record of the musicians that played on the tracks. In the USA session musicians are sometime entitled to royalties via the contracts of the Amercian Federation of Musicians. What they can't get through their heads is that the tracks were recorded in the UK (at Advision studios and the Royal Albert Hall) using musicians who were paid a flat fee under UK Musicians Union rules and don't come under the umbrella of the AFM at all! So licensing them is not currently an option. But once things have settled down, maybe someone will see sense!

The Japanese Live album is actually joint owned by EMI and a Japanese company which is why there are problems with that.

Richard record company staff seem to me mega-thick sometimes, I know Paul Howes had many problems with the Jack Jones cd's he has just released - Iithink at one point he was ready to jump off a bridge!!!!

The problem is that they don't actually seem to employ anyone who has any in depth knowledge of their catalogues. Anybody can look stuff up on computerized databases, but they don't realize you need to know what to look for too!

The only reason that Matt's catalogue is being looked at properly is because of Michele & I and the Bassey set was due to the knowledge of Martyn Daye - None of us of course work directly for record companies! Even people who do know what they are looking for often get ignored by record companies. Martyn & I have lost count of the number of e-mails that go unanswered!

Enough on my moaning.

Perhaps I should look at setting up my own re-issue label!!!!
