ALAN DEAN

Post by hpooch » Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:01 am

I just watched "Age of Consent" on DVD which was Helen Mirren"s first film at age 23. She starred with lead actor, James Mason, and it was an interesting film. But in the background I heard the song "Cora" which from the credits was sung by Alan Dean. He was born in 1924 in London,
so that would make him 45 at the time the movie was made. I checked on Google to discover he sang with Harry Roy, Carrol Gibbons, & Ambrose
but except for a 4-Box CD of "The Great British Bands & Their Vocalists" there is no mention of a LP or singles that he recorded. "Autumn Leaves",
"Nevertheless", & "Oh What It Seemed to Be" are some of the vocals by him. Maybe Harry & Lena might know if he still is alive in Australia, and if anyone has any solo recordings by him. His voice was similiar to Matt, and he was named England's top male vocalist in 1950, beating out more well known singers. Please enlighten me.....Henry

Henry, Alan Dean went to Australia after living in America for a number of years.
The only other information we have is that his recordings of "The Beboppers" were transferred to the " Esquire " label but seemly unavailable.
He sang with "The Keynotes."
We have the set of Great British Dance Bands and on these he sings with Carroll Gibbons, Ambrose.
We have asked a friend of ours who may have more information of this singer. We'll let you know.

Henry, we have received this information from our very knowledgeable friend Alan Brown Hope this helps.
Alan Dean recorded an album for MGM, title unknown, but he did also record an album titled "Favourite Hymns" for the design label.
He was also a part of the singing group... "Four Jacks and a Jill " which was led by another well known singer "Joe Derise" who at one stage was vocalist for the Jimmy Dorsey Band.
Alan Dean passed away some years ago.
