DAME VERA LYNN... Happy 97th Birthday

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Thu Mar 20, 2014 7:48 am

Happy Birthday to the wonderful Dame Vera Lynn who is celebrating her 97th Birthday today.
A national treasure who during WW2 brought hope and comfort to millions of servicemen and their families with those unforgettable songs that she made her own.
May she celebrate many more Happy Birthdays. :)

Happy 97th Birthday, Dame Vera. :D
She is releasing a new cd in June to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the D- Day Landings, which includes several unreleased tracks.

Must look out for that John but L&H you gave me quite a scare as I thought " Bad News".

I have an EMI 45 of Vera singing Don't You Remember and it was finally released on cd a few years ago, it's one of her newer records and she holds the notes forever.

Happy Birthday Vera.

John you are right, the CD is to commemorate the 70th D-Day Landings Anniversary and one of the previous un-released recordings is a real surprise, a duet with Vera and Anne Shelton together, and until this morning had never heard them sing together. :) I know the song though. ..."Say Something Sweet To Your Sweetheart"
Sandra, Vera Lynn has regularly been involved with a charity, I think it was for Cerebral Palsy and she has attended British Legion commemorations in the community where she lives in Ditchling but not sure if she is still able to do this now.
I know what you mean Karl, I did in fact have thoughts about the heading after, but I've altered it now.
