Hi Paul and everyone---you have picked out 2 of my faves from Linda Ronstadt --"You took advantage of me" and "It never entered my mind"--plus Bewitched" and "Someone to watch over me".

I also love Kenny Rogers "She believes in me", but a more recent one is "Buy me a rose" which won some sort of competion, I cannot remember exactly, but it was on Tv a few years back.

My favourite songs of Glen Campbell are "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife"--maybe not so well known as some of his others--plus "The world I used to know" and more recently-"I will be here" which is a really beautiful song, but sadly neglected.

Hi Paul--going back to Rodgers and Hart--have you heard or do you know the "Rodgers and Hart Songbook" by Dawn Upshaw. Dawn Upshaw is not very well known over here, but I am sure you will have heard of her. I guess you would call her a soprano---{please correct me if I am wrong-I am not very good at this} so some of the songs sound different--especially "Thou Swell" --but it has grown on me, and I like it a lot now

A couple years ago, I saw Dawn Upshaw in recital at Barbican. She sang German lieder as well as other art songs. Very enjoyable. I didn't know she had recorded a Rodgers & Hart album. Usually I don't care for classical vocalists singing popular song (e.g., Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, where it just doesn't work), but I'll have to check out Dawn Upshaw's recording.

Yes, she is a soprano. And I'm smiling because she's included with this subject of "Country Singers"! We do stray from one topic to another!

Hi Paul--yes we have gone off the original subject slightly---as usual

Bu while we're on this subject, have you heard Bernadette Peters with "I Love Rodgers and Hammerstein". I have got this cd, but I cannot make up my mind if I like Bernadette Peters voice or not.

She is another singer who is probably much better known in USA than over here.

I like Bernadette Peters performing on the stage or TV. I don't think I could listen to her singing songs on a CD. Her voice is for the stage and not the studio, in my opinion. She is probably the most famous American Broadway singer of the past 20 years.

Hi Marian and Paul, Bernadette Peters is a true professional star in America and she made an appearance here in the UK at the Royal Festival Hall, we think about 1998. Our friends saw her on this occasion and thought that she was fantastic.
As far as we know this performance was made to a DVD.
Not really a favourite singer of ours but she is multi-talented.

Hi Paul, Lena and Harry---yes of course you are right--I have seen Bernadette live on dvd, and I guess you have to see her to appreciate her completely. Obviously all the songs on the cd are great songs, but perhaps are not all suited to her voice. Yes I know that she is a very big star on the American stage.
