Have seen Joe Longthorne several times recently, he did a cracking cabaret at the Hilton Blackpool on 24th May, it was sheer bliss and magic, very intimate only about 150/200 people in the room and with the exception of one impression, Bennett and Mathis together on "San Francisco", we were treated to Joe singing as Joe all evening, he blew us all away with nearly two hours of magical singing, it was a very nice change to have him singing all evening ,it ws a very stylish, classy performance, he is such a high calibre performer, quality and class all the way. Seeing him like this Mr Monro always comes into my mind, its a gift to be able to perform and sing like that. I think Joe is unbeatable as a singer and performer, he also did a storming show at Swansea two days before his birthday on 29th May, raised the roof almost and I'm off to see him at Bournemouth and Brecon this week, I'm just a bit of fan!
It is wonderful to see Joe back at his best after being so ill, he's storming along at the moment.

That's great Chrissy, sounds as though you had a wonderful evening. Enjoy the likes of Joe whle you can, performers like him are rare.
It's so unfortunate that variety shows on TV are virtually a thing of the past. It's a greater pity that the current producers and controllers can't realise that a vast majority of the viewing public would happily welcome them back.
Joe is one example of the talent that would top any bill.

Yes its very sad that variety is a thing of the past on TV today, there's never much to interest me on the box these days, only the occasional music prog/doucumentary on BBC3/4 , you have to get out to the theatres/clubs to see these exceptional rare artists like Joe.

Just updating on this thread, Joe Longthorne has just started his 2010 tour and is going great guns at the moment, and I thought folk might have heard or if not be interested in Joe's appearance at the IndigoO2 on Sun 22nd August 2010. Joe is definitely a singer in the Monro class and always includes a very classy impression and tribute to the late Mr Monro Senior. Ticketmaster have all details on tickets, etc.
Joe also has his biography out on the book shelves now and it really is a great read, well worth purchasing.

Did anyone hear Joe Longthorne with Aled Jones on Sunday.

He is due too start a tour of 160 concerts--sounds gruelling, even foir a fit man--I get the impression he is still not 100%.

Apparently he has been in show business for 40 years, and was so ill recently he was given the Last Rites 3 times---he sounds an amazing person.

I actually saw Joe in real life yesterday :) at a garden centre on the outskirts of the City................Joe was buying equipment for a pond. It would not all fit in his Bentley, so he had to ring a mini bus to collect everything  ................Joe was speaking a my lad, who works at the garden centre on a weekend, during his Zoology degree course at University :)
