Johnny Mathis
Hi all--let me clarify a few things--I think we we w re all typing and posting together again, as we are all over the place.
Terence-I do not know the song "A Day in the Life if A fool",,unless it is the Eglish title to a Brazilian song--more info on that please!
For many years JM did a West Side Story Medley which was just spectacular , including a brilliant Maria. He has now replaced it with Kismet medley, which I also like a lot-especially "Baubles , Bangles and Beads". I think he was just not able to get the high note in Maria on stage any more.
Paul--the album that held the Top spot so long was "Johnnys Greatest Hits" which included Wonderful, Wonderful.
The Album called "Wonderful, Wonderful" is totally different, and includes songs like "Too Close for comfort" "in the wee Small hours of the morning" and an unknown gem called "Will I find my love today ". Funnily enough, it does not include the song "Wonderful, Wonderful "
Robert---Misty is a lovely song--but I would prefer to hear something different.

Thanks for the clarifications on Wonderful Wonderful and his long charting US album.
The English title of Manha de Carnaval is A Day In The Life Of A Fool. So he sang the song in Portuguese (not Brazilian ... there is no Brazilian language; I'm surprise Robert didn't catch this!
)
I've never heard the song Someone. Who wrote it? And you're probably right Robert, he wouldn't sing When A Child Is Born in the US.

Hi Paul-and Terence---well thanks for clearing that up-I had no idea that there was a different name to "Manha de Carnaval"--Beautiful song. Yes I guess it was Portuguese he sang in.
"Someone " is very popular over here---it was written by William Tennyson in 1959. John has said many times how surprised he is by the popularity of that song and "When a child is born " over here.
"What will my Mary say" was reasonably popular over here, but many people did not like the female singer in the background---"Don't go" she kept singing. And as we know the other one was only ever available on a 45" single over here.--so not very well known.

Hi Mark--that is a very rare record--very hard to get hold of. I managed to buy it about 15 years ago, at Covent Garden in the Dress Circle shop--not sure if that particular one is still there. I have seen it on sale for up to £100.00 in a shop in Birmingham!!!
Great LP--shame that so few people know about it.

I couldn't sleep last night so I listened to the all night jukebox on AM 740 Toronto. They just play music with no DJs and few ads. They play a lot of those new artists I know nothing about (Diana Krall, Michael Buble) and very few repeats. There's likely songs even Lena and Harry don't know. It's wonderful. I always wait for a Barry Manilow song and then I turn it off and go to sleep.
Last night they played a Johnny Mathis song that I haven't heard in a long time. It's a duet with a woman the 1970s and 1980s and not Too Much Too Little Too Late with Deniece Williams. I believe the lyric was something like "the last time I fell in love". Any ideas what this song is and who is the female vocalist?

Hi yes, that was Jane Olivor--the French-Canadian singer--I have several of her cds--I like her version of Neil Sedaka's song "One more ride on the merry go round"
He was recorded many duets with lots of different singers--I went through them on another page somewhere. I have just made a CD compliation of some of the more unusual JM duets--eg. Lena Horne: Liza Minelli: Monica Mancini--and Loads more. If anyone would like a copy, just contact me.
Dean, you definately had a stroke of luck there with "Ole"-I pais £25.00 for mine, and thought it was a bargain!!
