Vic Franklyn

Post by grandpajan » Thu Dec 14, 2006 9:51 pm

Has anyone over there in England ever heard of a singer named Vic Franklyn? He was very popular in Canada and did the Los Vegas thing during the 1970s. Frank Sinatra liked him and went to his shows often. I recorded off the air some of his songs during the late 1970s and early 1980s but was only able to acquire a couple of his LPs (CTL label) recently. He had a very nice voice. He was, by the way, born in Wales and did the band scene in the late 1960s in London before his wife and he immigrated to Canada (Toronto).

Hello grandpajan,
I found a web page called Famous Welsh, which has some info about Vic Franklyn. He was born in Aberdare in South Wales, but as you know emigrated to Canada and lived in Scarborough Ontario for many years.
He was known as the Canadian Sinatra.
He made at least 4 albums - After all is Said and Done, Shangri-La,
Friends and Leave Tenderly. There are several enquiries about him on the page and more info. which is on -

Hope this is helpful.
Marian.

Thanks Marian for the web page on Vic Franklyn.
Have to confess we have never heard of him, but if Frank said he was good. He was good.
Mark is correct. If anyone knows about him it will be Alan Brown, and you can hear Alan's regular fantastic music programmes on www.gmmy.com

Thanks to all for replying. I have been able to purchase through ebay, two LP albums, "Leave Tenderly" and "Shangri-La". I am in the process of converting them to CD. This was truly a gifted singer and it's too bad that he never got the recognition he deserved. I would really like to find the album "Friends" though.
