Coldplay climb Violet Hill to the top of the U.S. charts

(Thursday June 19, 2008 01:25 PM)

Coldplay have scored their first ever U.S. number one single just two days after the release of their much-anticipated new album Viva La Vida.

The rockers have ended Lil Wayne's five-week reign at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with their new song Violet Hill.

But it's not all doom and gloom for the rapper - his Tha Carter III stormed to the top of the album charts on Wednesday with over one million sales.

Coldplay's Viva La Vida is expected to topple Lil Wayne on the album charts next week.

Hot newcomer Katy Perry's summer anthem I Kissed a Girl also moves up the singles chart in America, claiming the new number two spot.

Hope you have your new Coldplay album by now Paul.

On Sunday, I'm going to the Coldplay concert in Washington. It will be my first time to see them live. I've always been more interested in their music than seeing them live. But since they are my favourite group ever (and with much encouragement from a certain MM forum member from York :) ), I decided to go to their concert.

So I'm back to only listening to Coldplay music to prepare for the concert. So solid Coldplay for the past week!
