Well, I totally agree--the US concerts are usually in smaller venues--but I guess if he did smaller venues, then he would need to do more concerts so that everyone could see him--=and I know that is not an option now.

So what else can the fans do--if they fill up places like the 02, and MENA--that is a whole lot of people---and yes, a dvd is good to watch , but it cannot beat the excitement and atmosphere of a live show.

I think the best place that I ever saw him was at Wembley Conference Centre---I loved it--but it has since been pulled down.

Plus, i think the 02 has screens--but they are not always used. I have never seen JM at a venue with screens--the MENA is enormous--and Wembley Arena--NEC.

Not sure if you are aware, Marian, but Johnny Mathis is on Ken Bruce's Radio 2 show this morning choosing the 'Tracks of His Years' - I think it is around 11.30am

That lady with the teddy bear could well have been me Maxine........ in those years I went to every concert--from 1980 to 1996-over 200 concerts and appearances including numerous visits to US.
And thanks Karl, yes, i did know he was on this week. Facebook has a really nice pic of him with Ken Bruce.

I can't sleep and am listening to Ken Bruce. Just heard Johnny Mathis choosing the tracks of his years. The first song today was Matt Monro's Portrait of My Love. He had the most kind things to say about Matt Monro and his voice and how he often thinks of him when he performs. I wish I could have a transcript. Everyone should "listen again" to the song and Johnny's words.

That is fantastic news Paul.............how great for Matt to be remembered by another great singer after all these years :D :D ..........will have to have a listen :) ................also that JM knew Matts version over Steve Lawrence's version, as it was SL who had the hit in the US with the song.

Great compliments by JM (FULL INTERVIEW) ..............."When I first came to Great Britain Matt Monro was the talk of the "world" he had such a beautiful voice and sang so wonderfully perfect, I learned so many songs by listening to his recordings and he is very very big in my thoughts, when I perform when I sing a lot of people don't know what we singers think about while we're singing but a lot of stuff goes through our mind while all these words and notes are coming out and a lot of my production thought and my mind reverts to Matt Monro who had this one meliflous quality, it was lovely and round and full and very pleasnat to listen too, it wasn't forced and those things are very important to me as singer l love listening to Matt Monro" :D :D
