Sorry not to check up on the progress of this thread but its approaching a very busy time in the world orf retail, so not been on here as much as I would like!

Yes, I though that the Huggetts/Blue Lamp/Dixon of Dock Green thing would crop up, despite it being totally off thread lol  (but given some of my convoluted commetns in the past I think I can give you ) I vaguely remember it being on on a Saturday night somewhere between Dr Who, The Generation Game and Dads Army. But I don't really remember much about black/white TV

Marian D - thanks very much for the spelling correction! Usually thats Roberts job but you managed to outdo him there! I will try and go back and edit my original post! I am very jealous that you have Sky +! May have to invest in one of those soon

Am also going to have to go an look at the rest of the thread to see just what Robert was on about that prompted Marks comments about Jeff Chandler in polka dots and pearls!! Not even sure who Jeff Chandler was!

The things you miss in a week!

Hi Mike--good to see you back---and glad you have corrected Petulas name. I may not have noticed it, if it had not been so personal to me.!

It was actually Mark who said about Jeff Chandler in the Polka dots, but I did not follow it up! He was a very well known film star, in his day.

I have to add that Sky plus is great---in my top 5 of things that I would not like to be without--up with my computer, and my I-pod.

Hi Mike--did you forget to post a comment--or did you intend to repeat your previous posting---either way, it's a neat method of getting your 200th posting!!!!

Watched Legends this evening on BBC4 featuring Petula Clark and one of the best we've seen.
From early childhood and onwards still proving what a great singer and performer she is.

I was TRYING to watch this on BBC4 the other night but our signal is not that strong and it kept 'dropping out' - I had to give up after 25 minutes, but it was clear that Petula is a wonderful entertainer that has managed her career well (ably assisted by her husband). I think she is a bit underated as an artist, maybe because she is not a 'diva' in the same way that Shirley Bassey and Barbra are!

But also Mike, PC just doesn't have the same powerful voice as BS and SB have, voices which have helped considerably to make them divas

Hi All

I think Petula Clark's phrasing is fabulous, so quintessentially English.
Finian's Rainbow was on the TV a couple of weeks ago, I Sky+'d it, haven't got round to watching it yet, but am looking forward to the viewing.
Has anyone else seen it?
Is it any good?

Hi Gray--hope you and Amanda and the girls got home with no problems--you have a really sweet family there.

I think the kindest thing I can say about the film "Finians Rainbow" is it is quaint !!

I love the song "Look to the rainbow" but Petula had this strange accent, that really ruined it for me--if she had sung it normally it would have been fine.

But then again, you may like it .

Hi Marian

Thanks for replying!
I will listen out for "Look to the Rainbow", I have to be honest, off the top of my head I am struggling to recall ANY songs from Finians Rainbow! Can't think of one!

Hope you got home safely as well on Monday, our trip was fine thanks, except it was bloomin' cold up here in the North when we arrived home!
What a difference in temperature!
Absolutely freezing.
As my Nanna used to say, "it's cold enough for two hair nets". :)

Hi Gray--it turned very cold down here on Tuesday--and it is still cold and windy--but probably not as cold as Yorkshire !!!
