Thanks for that clarification, Robert. I thought you may have obtained your interest in 60s music similarly to my love of big band music (through my parents and listening to standards radio stations that don't exist anymore in the US).

I keep forgetting to tell Michael that dick Clark is very much alive. He anchored his annual "dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve from Times Square" programme. And he did the countdown at midnight. He's still not speaking perfectly (from his stroke several years ago), but he's doing much better than last year. He looked good. (I also loved American Bandstand and watched it every Saturday afternoon.)

[It's fun to enter postings for two singers (Peter & Lee) that I've never heard of. I almost feel we should should rename this thread; those singers (whoever they are) are getting too many postings!]

But we over here, know who Peters and Lee are, Paul. They had a few hits, including a #1 "Welcome Home"
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Can't really agree with you, Paul, about the superiority of Oasis over the Beatles, though I have to admit that I quite like Noel Gallagher's vocals (it is Noel, not Liam, who sings, isn't it?); he has a strong, clear voice. In the last month or so British TV showed a solo concert Noel gave recently in which he sang some of the Oasis numbers live, and I have to say I rather enjoyed it. Tempted me to go out and buy Oasis' Greatest Hits, which recently came out, but I haven't done so yet. Maybe their songs will survive but I doubt that Oasis will have the longevity, and certainly not the sheer cultural influence, of the Beatles.

Hi everyone - - after my Beatle comments, I can't believe that I went out for dinner the other night to my partners bosses and he put on the Beatles - not sure what album but it was the 'later' stuff and included 'I am the Walrus'! Didn't like it

On the Oasis issue, I think they have done some great tracks and Paul has identified their two best works I think. Yes, lots of bar bands over do sing them, and the customers usually all join in! 'Don't look back in anger' is my favourite out of the two. They have done other notable tracks, but yes, it may be a generation thing as to whether you rate Oasis over the Beatles. Both are talented, I think the Beatles may have had more charisma and warmth though!

Can't believe Mike Flowers has got a mention - may have to start a seperate thread off - his version of 'Don't Cry for me Argentina' is also worth a listen! All very tongue in cheek.

Finally Paul, thanks on the DC update! Didn't realise he'd had a stroke. And still doing that New Years countdown! All we got was BBCs rather frosty Natahsa Kaplinsky and two BBC presenters on ice! Oh, and a RATHER fantastic fireworks display!
Michael

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......

jon, it is usually Liam who sings ALL the vocals in Oasis. But Noel took over the lead singing role for "Don't Look Back In Anger"

Noel sings lead on about a third of the Oasis recordings. On their latest album he sang lead on all the best songs and the biggest hit The Importance Of Being Idle. And he often does solo acoustic sets where he sings the "Liam songs" such as Wonderwall. It's intesting to hear Noel's interpretation as he has written most of the songs.

Their latest album Stop The Clocks is not a greatest hits compilation, Jon. It features the early hits as well as a few B sides. It didn't interest me because it omitted Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Little By Little---two of their best songs from the Heathen Chemistry album. It reminds of the Robbie Williams greatest hits compilation which didn't include my second favourite Robbie song Something Beautiful, which was a huge hit. I didn't buy his greatest hits album either. I want all the hits to be included.
