Andy Williams UK vist October
Re: Andy Williams UK vist October
Just watched the Andy Williams programmes, they were really good. The Duets programme featured Ella, Tony Bennett, Shirley Bassey to name but a few. The "solo" programme featured Moon River, Can't Take My Eyes Off You etc. An enjoyable evenings entertainment. Just wish I could have taped it, but my video player isn't working.

Heres one more review.
just back from UK and what can I say? Andy was simply sensational!!! His concert at Royal Albert Hall was one of the greatest concerts I´ve ever seen! Andy was in great shape, in fine form and in a very good mood. you could tell that he loved every minute of the show. And how the audience loved him! Like you´ve already heard, grown men were in tears. That´s really true! Like always, which is most amazing, Andy presented a whole new show! He was backed by a excellent Big Band and he sang songs that even I hadn´t expected. For instance, he opened with a rousing performance of "You´re nobody till somebody loves you" which was perfect to set the mood for things to come. Then he sang an unbelievable thrilling version of "The sweetest sounds" followed by "More than you know". He even sang two Sinatra arrangements of "They can´t take that away from me" and "I´ve got you under my skin" with the original Nelson Riddle arrangement. And the way he communicated with the audience was pure joy. He took that big Albert Hall and made it his living room. You know, sometimes in a concert, the performer and the audience become one.And that´s magic. And Andy´s performance on that night was pure magic. There was something special about it that words can´t express. A certain something was in the air that made his concert a triumphant event. Something we all who were there will cherish forever. It was Andy at his best. Perfection.
The next day I went to the BBC studios to see Andy perform on the Jools Holland Show. He did "Moon River" and "Can´t get used to losing you". It was annoying to see that they let him wait for almost two hours(!) before they recorded him. He was standing almost all the time. How could they let him stand there for so long? But nevertheless, Andy was able to do a good performance. Once again it showed what a complete pro he is. Nobody can touch him. Not even poor Tv directors.
The next day I went to Glasgow to see his book launch. And once again there was magic! Andy came running on to the stage, looking and acting like a young man! He entertained the audience in a manner that I have never seen by anyone else before! this was the greatest entertainment I´ve ever seen! Maybe the greatest entertainment that anyone will ever see.
Because this kind of showmanship simply doesn´t exist anymore! Andy Williams displayed on that early evening that he is the last real great entertainer this world has to offer. You won´t see the likes of him anymore. That´s sure. He was telling the audience about his life and times for more than an hour and once again the audience went wild about him. He was telling jokes and funny anecdotes and sang little bits of Kay Thompson tunes and some rareties. It was like though he was opening a treasure chest!
And then came the highlight. a moment I´ll never forget in a hundred years: Andy sang "This is all I ask". There was only piano and voice. And something happened that even I, (who claims to be his greatest fan), can´t explain: This is the absolute truth, I swear to you:
He sounded like in the 1960´s! It was unbelievable! This was the most magical moment ever. His voice on that song with just piano was so strong and so beautiful, it felt as if it came out of his classic Tv show. Richard, he even moved the same way he did on those big final ballads of his ´60s Tv show. It was all there. I don´t know what happened or why it happened ,all I can say is that this moment was a special gift. And I was lucky to witness it.
And I´ll be grateful forever!

Goodness me John, what a review, but if that's how this person (no doubt Andy Williams biggest or one of his biggest fans ) felt about his performance, he has certainly put it on pen and paper and made no secret of it here.
He has obviously appreciated Andy's singing for many years and he is remaining loyal and supporting him, and if his time here in the UK has given him a lot of enjoyment, then that's great
Like thousands of fans, we have listened to and enjoyed Andy Williams recordings for over Fifty years, but we stick by what we have said. His voice is not what it was, and nothing to do with..just our opinion...it's a fact !!!
Al Martino, as good and as powerful his voice still is, just on a rare occasion will show a strained note, and so will all these singing legends who are in their late Seventies and Eighties and still performing today.
No vocalists of this age can sing and perform quite the same as they did in their prime, as much as we admire them and appreciate them.

Hi Lena/Harry
I saw Andy's performance on the Jools Holland show and thought he sounded quite strained. It's good to see he's still trooping but maybe it's time for him to retire gracefully.

Not like our Shirl ( Shirley Bassey ) when she arrived at Glastonbury, ...I need a cup of tea and a pee.
