David Jacobs mentioned last night that he was going to see Barbra in concert this week-but not sure what day.

Do you think he's paid his £500 :? :? Maybe seats are even more expensive for the London concerts.

I think the £500.00 was the cost of tickets in London--although some may have paid more via other sources. I would think that David Jacobs has plenty of "Connections" to help him get decent tickets at a good price.

Barbra's back in town after more than a decade and boy, does she love to talk. The question is, can she still sing?

Her voice has worn somewhat, and to mask any deficiencies (and to provide scripted age-gap banter) she's augmented by four dishy dudes from Broadway. Sometimes, when she reaches for the high notes, she's a little husky. Sometimes, when she reaches for the high notes, she's a pedigree malamute.

And she can talk. Boy she likes to talk, spinning tales of teleprompters, sitting with Princess Di at a premiere, finding out she was pregnant when opening a residency at the Palladium, living in London when she made Yentl, and inadvertently revealing that her husband has his own bathroom, repeating the catchphrase "Can you imagine?" almost as a nervous tic.

She's irresistibly likeable, the winsome, kooky kid still visible beneath the wrinkles, and self-deprecating with it ("I don't know if it's the accent," she says when she fails to comprehend an audience member's shouting, "or... a senior moment"), even if she does encourage the "We love you Barbra!" nonsense a little too much.

Can't believe how many reviews Barbra seems to have achieved during her brief appearance in the U.K.

Now there's a star, Helen Mirren, although the Queen movie didn't somehow appeal. She's a very good actress, but can't imagine that she can sing like Barbra.

Always liked Dame Helen, an excellent actress. Her sister attended our daughter's wedding in Sri Lanka, as they became friends out there.

Lovely part of the world to get married in we imagine Marian.
We liked Helen Mirren in the series "Prime Suspect "as Chief Inspector Jane Tennison.

Barbra's making news in Asia

Post by Terence Lee » Wed Jul 25, 2007 9:14 am

I switched on my satellite TV today and on a Taipei/Hong Kong entertainment program, lo and behold, it was Barbra Joan Streisand crooning Starting Here, Starting Now in a London concert. Fans are asking why she is always clad in black, both on and off stage. I thought her face was too plain on stage and needed more stage make-up. More importantly, I heard imperfections in her once flawless voice especially for The Way We Were. Is it possible La Streisand is losing it?

Our daughter taught at the International School in Sri Lanka, Lena and Harry. She was there for 6 years which was why she married there.
It is a beautiful place, but spoiled by people. We called it "Paradise with rubbish"!!

Is Barbra putting on the pounds (in weight) :?: maybe that's why she wears black, to hide those bulges

Yes Robert.....that's it!
You have solved the mystery of why she is always in black!!

Celebrities spotted by my friend at the final concert:
Meryl Streep, Michael Ball, Ralph Fiennes, Rosalind Kind (Barbra's sister) and David Frost.

She sang one line of Woman in Love when someone from the audience asked her to sing it and immediately remarked "I never really liked that song".

Well, whether she likes the song or not, a friend thought it was highly inappropriate for her to put down Barry, Robin and the rest of the Gibb publicly. He did not understand why she would say this to a packed arena. It was in such poor taste.

Barbra was in top form and really went for those long notes being the last concert.

Asia next? There are rumours.........

Marian, your daughter was doing a very important and worthwhile job in that school in Sri Lanka.
Although again it's by choice and opinions. How could anyone not like the song "Woman In Love" : ? lol:
