" Happy Birthday" Jack Jones.

It takes true professionalism to still tour and sing to enthusiastic audiences at the age of 69.
There are still a few left of that era who could teach some of the so-called singers of today a thing or two.
Jack Jones is certainly one of them.

To mark the occasion, RCA should release all of Jack's RCA albums on CD.
Now that would be cause for celebration, right Marian?

However, Jack holds the rights to all his RCA albums and for some reason seems to want to keep them to himself for now.

Quite a number seem to be being released in Japan in recent years though. They seem to have found a way of getting around the red tape..

Does Jack Jones have a fan club Marian?
Perhaps the president of the fan club has access to Jack and someone can ask him why he is withholding these classic albums from being released on CD? Jack Jones Sings Michel Legrand was released on Laserlight in USA which is not a label I want Jack to be associated with as it is a budget label. The releases in Japan are from the parent company. I like the original album cover art to be retained. But Laserlight did not do this.

No, sorry Terence, Jack no longer has a Fan Club.

The Jack Jones Music Appreciation Society was disbanded many years ago, but we still wear the badge to concerts, and Jack appreciates this.

The Sinatra Society of Japan has replied my email with bad news. I had requested more CDs of Jack's RCA albums but the reply I got was that Jack no longer wants to license any of the recordings to them to release on CD in Japan. The reason given was that Jack wants to release the RCA recordings himself at his website. But I have just been there and it is not happening. Perhaps Marian may have an update?

Hi Terence.
No sorry, I don't know what is happening with Jack's recordings either. His own website is still down at the moment, as it was "corrupted" in some way and "important files were lost." (JJ's words)

The endorsed site run by Masaya from Japan, is only just being refurbished and still has a way to go. If I can get any information I will certainly let you know.

Hi Terence,
I've come back to Jack's pages to reply to your question on the Perry Como thread. I think JJ knows many fans would like more of his RCA albums released on CD, also that a DVD would be welcomed.
I just think he seems happy with the low profile he keeps at the moment and isn't particularly interested in releasing more material,

but hopefully, I could be wrong!

I just love the way Jack Jones interpret songs. Even though you may have heard a particular song sung by countless singers, you can be sure Jack will still manage to sing it differently with just a different note here and there. He is the master of improvisation! Is this why you like him Marian?

This Marian is answering with a definate "yes"--plus he has a very distinctive voice--I like singers that you can say straightaway---oh! that is so and so .

Can you say the same for Michael Buble?
Is his voice instantly recognisable?

By the way, have you noticed a similarity between Johnny Mathis and Al Jareau in the timbre of their singing voices and the way they hold certain notes?

Hi Terence-yes I can recognise Michael Bubles voice.

I have not heard much of Al Jarreau, but I know he has been compared to Johnny Mathis--in fact at one time , there were rumours that he was going to play the part of JM in a film--but nothing came of it.

Yes, I think you are right Terence, it is the interpretation of the song that is so special with Jack, and the fact that you can tell straight away that it is him singing.

I saw him first on his own BBC tv shows from the sixties, bought my first JJ record, and have followed his career ever since.

His live performances are also great, as he seems to really appreciate his audience. He will always leaves the stage if he possibly can to shake as many hands as possible. Sometimes he has trouble getting back on the stage though, if it's very high with no steps!!

Never mind the RCA albums where are the rest of those fabulous LONDON ones-especially SHALL WE DANCE? Jack on top form singing standards with the wonderful Billy May.
