Miss Marple

Post by jon » Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:03 pm

I just bought a CD of Ron Goodwin and his orchestra playing the music from the Miss Marple films which starred Margaret Rutherford in the 60s and am really enjoying it. I remember these films with fondness, especially Murder Ahoy!, in which she has a swordfight with William Mervyn as the villain at the end. But the music stands up very well in its own right.

I love that music too - very catchy! I also enjoyed the films which were composite stories, drawing on several books for their plots. The music was the common thread between the films, and it was very jaunty.

You're quite Marian, but the films were no where near as bad as those 'Marple!' films ITV have done recently - complete horlicks. Marcs aunt (a real Agatha Christie fan) is regularly emailing ITV at the mistakes they made and so have I! E.g a letter allegedly posted in 1936 had a stamp with the Queens Head on it! And some-one picked up the phone in a film set in the 1950s, and was connected immediately to a number in India! As an ex-Hello Girl (GPO trained too) my Mum immediately spotted that a call to India in the early 1950s would have taken hours to connect!

Sorry - I meant to go and say Marian that the BBC series of 'Miss Marple' were fantastic - Joan Hickson was sublime as Jane Marple

Theres a lovely picture of her and Marc at our 'do' where they swapped hats - she was wearing his RAF one and he wearing this M&S one that was recommended to her by a lady in M&S who turned out to be the Mayoress of Preston. Alison will dine out on that story for years - she tries to be Hyacinth Bucket but is actually more like the sister thats married to Onslow (her words not ours!)

You can't miss it! Marc's wearing a womans hat - not something he does on a regular basis! I uploaded all the pictures from our semi-official photgrapher to the snapfish site a week or so ago, so the links I sent you should give you access to the full library!

I also like this tune from the Miss Marple films Jon, and often wondered if it was available to buy anywhere! I also like the theme to the ones with Joan Hickson as well!

Hi John

I sae copies of the CD on sale in both HMV and Virgin on Oxford Street in London and bought my copy in HMV. I think it was an import CD produced in either Holland or Germany. I'll look again tonight. Can't remember the label for the moment.
