VINCE HILL.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Fri Aug 12, 2011 10:43 pm

Just wondered if anyone has read Vince's recent biography..... ANOTHER HILL TO CLIMB. Although it has been out for a few months now we confess that we haven't read it yet, but we shall purchase it now. It looks as if it could interest us with stories of showbiz and celebrities from the past 50 years. Have just read the latest YOURS issue. Roy Hudd has just come back from a few days break and said that he took Vince's biography with him to read.
He thoroughly enjoyed it. By the way, if like me anyone watches "Doctors" on TV each day Roy will be appearing in next Fridays episode. :)

Yes I read it and found it very disappointing, for someone who has been in showbusiness as long as Vince it's a very short book, Matt's is so much better and a far bigger book.

I was also very disappointed---it was a much shorter book--cost more--and on top of that, there was no discography-something I have been searching for a long time.

I haven't read any other reviews since the book was published, but that's interesting that you both found the book disappointing. A shame really since Vince has been in the business for so long, and no doubt his health issues must have taken over a large part of his career.
I am sure we will still read the book though, and always remember Vince's songs that he sang and made his own. :) :)

Lena & Harry probably the reason for the lack of reviews is you have to order Vince's book direct from the publisher, let me see if I can find my copy and you can have it - that is unless I've already given it to a charity shop. I will look over the weekend.

Thank you for the offer Karl, much appreciated, but no problem for us to get it, but you are probably right about having to order direct from the publisher, even though in the article it does say that this is available at good book shops, but in any case http://www.bankhousebooks.com looks to be the obvious. The price. £12

That is a drop then Marian, and not very encouraging, particularly as you sent yours back.

Thanks Marian and Karl, I must say though my enthusiasm for this item has somewhat wavered being that I trust your comments and judgement for books of this nature :) :) :)

Much as I love Vince and his music, I think he missed an opportunity here, to give a great book--maybe not entirely his fault-could be publisher, etc etc.

Funnily enough I was going to get this as well, perhaps I'll give it a miss. :( I was also going to get Val Doonican's as well, that is very reasonably priced at Amazon.

I have an old one of Val Doonican's. Is this a recent one John? :D
