The Rat Pack.

Post by Marian » Tue Aug 07, 2007 8:52 pm

Just booked for "Christmas with the Rat Pack" at the Anvil in Basingstoke in December. We've not seen them before, but have heard they are very good. Anyone been to see their show?

No - we kept meaning to - particularly the Xmas one! Will have to see where we are living later in the year and maybe go along.

By the way - is that the 1st mention of Christmas so far on here this year!?

I believe you have to book way ahead, as the shows get sold out quickly.
We are having to go to the matinee performance for this one, to get anything like a good seat. Luckily the extra show had just gone on sale.
Sorry about mentioning Christmas already!!

That's OK Marian. Selfridges opened their Christmas shop on Monday.
It's true.
Anyway we haven't seen the Rat-Pack show yet. We have seen Stephen Triffitt, the Sinatra sound- alike twice, who won "Stars In Their Eyes " He is the best Sinatra impersonater that we have seen or heard, and there have been many.
He appeared in London's West-End performances to start with, but once again there was no guarantee that he would appear, so that put us off because he was the main reason for us wanting to see the show.
None the less it has always had great reviews.

Well having said all that about Stephen Triffitt . We were disappointed with his part of the Three who performed the Rat Pack on the DanceX on Saturday. We've seen him and heard him impersonate Sinatra's voice so much more accurately than he did on that show
His mannerisms were still exceptionally good,... the voice wasn't.

I have always considered that Frank Sinatras voice would be quite a difficult one to impersonate--and looks like I was right !!

The trouble is when we are fans of particular singers, and not only Sinatra, we know these singers and every note that they sing so well it's not an easy task.
Joe Longthorne does a great impression of Sinatra, but then just listen to his Johnny Mathis, and Englebert Humperdinck. Shirley Bassey, Stevie Wonder, Matt, and we have seen and heard his impression on DVD of Dorothy Squires which is unbelievable, but then Joe is a one-off. To listen to them click on to the music icon on his web-site.
