MERYL STREEP - Have any of you seen "The Iron Lady" Movie?.....Meryl should win the Academy Award for her acting.
But the movie script about your former PM could have been a more complete story about her life.

I've heard it's a great movie but for some reason they seem to be focusing more on her later years.
Meryl Streep is an amazing actress anyway.

The film was a 'good watch'.It did concentrate too much on her later years with flashbacks which were very well done of her early childhood and rise to fame.
Nothing at all about son Marks 'doings'.It portrayed Carol as a loving daughter.
Lots of news footage re the Falklands War and the miners strike.Very little, only in voice overs of the mass unemployment and loss of lives caused by the above.
I can understand why opinion is divided dependant on your political viewpoint and where you were during those years.
For example we were sitting next to three maybe students who were giggling and shuffling throughout ,but oldies like us were seeing it quite differently.
A fantastic cast though and Meryl Streep was just amazing

From what I've seen of the movie, Meryl Streep portrays Maggie Thatcher very well, but to choose people like the once strong personality, and now frail Margaret Thatcher and King Goerge V1 and the Queen to line movie makers pockets has never felt to be in good taste to me, but there you go. As Sandra has said it's a matter of opinion and perhaps what generation you came from.

There is at least one glaring error in the film:
Margaret Thatcher never wore a hat in The House
of Commons; it would be in breach of custom
and practice. When hats were allowed to be worn
in the chamber it was to enable the wearer to signal
that they were not taking part in debates.
I agree that the making of such a biopic seems
distasteful while the subject of it is still with us.

I've learned something Keith. I didn't know about the non wearing of hats in the House of Commons, and as for the Maggie Thatcher film, we agree with what you say. Perhaps this may be more acceptable after her passing.
Also while the Queen is alive I thought it uncomfortably wrong to make a movie about her and her Father King George V1, regardless of their success.
When Maggie Thatcher was Minister For Education in the 70s, she presented a prize to our son's school when he contributed some art work.
It didn't particularly make us a fan of hers, and there's no doubt she was detested by many while she was in power, but she stood by her guns and allowed nothing or nobody to over rule her position.
