I haven't heard the entire album of Adele 21 except for 2 songs : Rolling In The Deep & Someone Like You.
Does anyone on this board like her?
Is she overrated?
Her DVD is on sale everywhere.

Terence, when her albums came out, she was cool. Now everyone has latched on to her and are playing her songs on constant rotation 24/7. All these contests like American Idol etc, the girls keep trying to sing like her and that's why I believe she's becoming over rated.

I liked Chasing Pavements from the first album. Couldn't stand Hometown Glory from that album.

I like the background singers on Rolling in the Deep. As Eman said, it has been overplayed on the radio in the US and UK. I don't like anything else I've heard from the second album. I dislike Someone Like You immensely, except when Saturday Night Live does a comedy sketch revolving around it.

She is overrated.

I do wonder whether Adele is a "flash in the pan": she makes me think of Duffy - remember her? You couldn't go anywhere three or four years ago without hearing one of her songs being played somewhere, but what happened to her? Adele seems to fit the same mould, but I do like "Rolling In the Deep" and Set Fire To The Rain"; not so keen on "Someone Like You". Her albums look like the sort of things that will end up in the remainder pile of your local supermarket in a couple of years' time, but maybe one or two of the songs will survive beyond that as classics in their own right, or maybe not...

Yeah I remember Duffy and I actually liked her! I just hope Ellie Goulding doesn't get overplayed here in the US like Adelle. Another one that is constantly getting airplay and everytime I change the station in the car, the stations are playing one of her songs is Rebecca Ferguson!!

Sometimes i like Adele-sometimes not--the latest one that I like is "turning tables" She does have a knack of writing unusual songs--but they take a bit of time to get used to--it took me ages to get into "Rolling in the Deep"

Which reminds me---did anyone hear the joke about the passenger who lost his computer overboard---

It was A "Dell " rolling in the deep-----[my computer is a "Dell".]

Oh Jon, I can't stand Set Fire to the Rain. I think she's sharp throughout the song. Yes, Marian, Rolling in the Deep does require many listens, but I still don't like it.

I only liked Chasing Pavements.

Duffy's followup album didn't do well on the charts. Basically radio ignored it after her first single flopped. She developed a huge vibrato which wasn't evident on the first album. I still like to hear those songs, especially Warwick Avenue.

I think Adele will continue to have success, but nothing as big as 21.

Hi Paul

Sorry to see you don't like "Set Fire to the Rain" or "Rolling in the Deep". Can't agree on everything, can we? I've been reading people's choices on the other threads about members' favourite songs and had a listen to some of the Dolly Parton ones that you mentioned: can't say they do much for me either, though they probably require more in-depth listening. And I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for Coldplay, who I have just never "got" (the only song of theirs I have ever liked is "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face"). But then, as you know, I'm a Manic Street Preachers man myself.

Yes I quite like Manic Street Preachers and have their recent cd.

Hi Karl

I take it when you say you have the Manics' latest CD that you are referring to "Postcards From A Young Man". It's OK but not my favourite. My two favourite Manics albums are "Lifeblood" (not that well liked by the fanbase generally though) and "Journal For Plague Lovers" (some great tracks on the latter such as "Jackie Collins Existential Question Time"!). I don't have a favourite Manics song - there are so many - but if I was forced to name one it would be "I Live To Fall Asleep" from "Lifeblood".

Yes Jon that's the cd I have. I am not a huge fan but when you hear and enjoy certain songs on the radio it makes you want to buy the cd.
