David Whitfield Statue

Post by geoff83 » Sat Sep 01, 2012 2:52 pm

After years of talks and set backs, a statue to one of Hull's greatest singer's, David Whitfield, was unveiled in the city yesterday. I've not worked out how to paste a photograph on the message board, so here's the link for anyone who wishes to see and read more.

That's good he's been remembered, it would be nice if they did the same for Frankie Vaughan, Matt Monro and Dusty!

Frankie Vaughan seems to be another forgotten man after all the charity work he did for Easterhouse in Glasgow.

Youre right Karl. Too many great artists seem to have been all but fogotten, except by their fans. When I perform, I always make a point of highlighting some of the artists other hits, besides the one that I am going to sing. Of course, knowing a little more in-depth information on stars like Matt and Billy Fury does give me the chance to talk a little more :-)

When you think about it Geoff, we have a wealth of late great stars,
Dickie Valentine, Alma Cogan, Donald Peers, Ronnie Hilton, Anne Shelton to name just a few.

Feel free to add to this list folks and in that way we can remember them.

I forgot to say earlier, David Whitfield on the Wheeltappers dvd he was older but what a character and he gave a fantastic performance.
