Hi All

For Xmas I was lucky enough to get the CD of George Benson's Greatest Hits.
Does anyone out there like him?
He does the most wonderful version of The Carpenters 'This Masquerade', he sings it quite beautifully.
At the moment, it is the only album I am listening too, I like it so much.

Gray :)

I like his commercial records - the ones that would be on the album you have, Gray - he has a nice voice, though not outstanding, but is also of course a well respected and accomplished jazz musician in his own right and has made many jazz recordings.

Thanks for replying all, I shall look on YouTube L&H, thanks for that tip.
Yes, Marian, Love X Love is very good.

It really is a cracking cd, I would recommend it to anyone.
Very smooth and relaxing.

I do actually have "The Greatest hits of George Benson"---plus another one called "Midnight Moods" which is very similar--nearly all the tracks are the same-but as you say Gray-a very nice addition to the Collection.

That's nice to know you like George Benson also, Marian.
Has anyone seen the Bob Fosse film 'All That Jazz'?
The opening sequence is a theatrical audition played to George Benson singing 'On Broadway' - it's a great song and a great sequence. :)

:D This is neat! Like Marian, my very favourite George Benson song (by a mile) is Love X Love. It has such a great groove and lyrics. Unfortunately it was only promoted to soul/R & B stations in the US, so many people don't know it. And it's rarely included on US-issued George Benson compilations. I need to buy a UK compilation that includes Love X Love. The only version I have is on an old cassette tape. :(

I think that most of George Bensons compilations include "Love x Love---"and "On Broadway" which I also love.

When I was at HMV I bought George Benson -- The Essential Collection on their 2 for 10 pounds special.

Avoid this collection. Do not buy it. I bought it to get clean versions of the only two George Benson songs I really like: Love x Love and The Greatest Love of All. (My current versions are recorded from the radio and not clear.) The single versions of these songs are on this two-CD collection. :( Rhino Records: I expect better things from you. This version of The Greatest Love of All doesn't even contain the second verse. Totally unforgiveable. :x

This collection is giving me the opportunity to listen to 30 or so other recordings he made. I know the hits like Give Me The Night and On Broadway, which I never liked. I'm not liking anything else either. Everything sounds so dated; it's not held up well.

As soon as I finish listening and read the liner notes, it's headed to a resale shop or I'll take it back to HMV on my next trip and request a store credit since they have sold such a terrible collection.

I don't know if I'll ever get Love x Love or The Greatest Love of All unless I can clearly see the times listed.

The other CD I bought in the 2 CDs for 10 pounds special is a greatest hits by Johnny Cash, which is superb. :)
