Travelled over to Cleethorpes on Sunday night to see Gary Williams in concert.

He can always be relied on to give a professional performance.

Plenty of variety including songs by Jack Jones,Johnny Mathis,Frank Sinatra,Neil Diamond etc.

The highlight for us was his lovely rendition of 'Portrait' and a superb UNACCOMPANIED version of 'Softly' as a tribute to two well known locals.


Well worth the journey.

Sandra you speak of him as if we should all know him, can you tell us a bit more?

Was it Gary Williams who sang in Les Miserables--I think I may have him on "The Making of Les Miserables" dvd. But not 100% sure, maybe someone with a similar name.

Don't think he did Les Mis Marian but not sure on that.

He is just a local singer made good.We happened to go to a charity concert at his home town of Grimsby many moons ago, and he appeared.
Since then he cropped up as a guest with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.Has a fan page so we are able to catch him in our area.
Has 'done' Sinatra many times,more lately does his Sinatra Jukebox' shows at prestigious hotels in London etc.
Tours with Chris Dean from the Syd L.O as 'Nat and Matt'.Does lots of cruises,just returned from Brazil and now heading off again on another one. Also played Sinatra in the west end Rat Pack shows.

Interestingly he devotes five pages to analysing Matts 'Live In Australia' show for example opening with a snappy number,the chat,the bonding with the audience,the ballads,the energy etc.

Just an all round nice singer really that we enjoy watching.Not many around that you can still listen to,as David Jacobs would say 'our kind of music'.Who,incidentally chose Gary to sing for him in his Legend Of Sinatra tour.

Sorry--I think I may have been thinkig of Gary Miller [re Les Mis].
I did a search on Gary Williams, and saw a load of positive comments on him.

Thanks for that Sinatra, he sounds a good act to see kind of in the Stuart Gillies mould.

Marian I don't think you mean Gary Miller either I am sure he's been gone awhile. Maybe John would know more about him?

Yes, Gary Miller died in 1968 aged just 44, very sadly. He was in fact originally from Blackpool. He sang the theme to Stingray, and had several hits throughout the 50's and early 60's including "Robin Hood", "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" and "There Goes That Song Again"(a favourite of mine). Very nice singer and was a shame he died so young.

Oh dear-I shall have to check out my dvd--it was probably someone totally different !

Oh no, definateley not Gary Wilmot.

I realised it was not a dvd but a video, and the person I am thinking of is Gary Morris --not sure what he has done before or since--this video dates from 1988, and as far as I am aware has never been releasd on dvd.

Sorry for the confusion--I'm allowed to be a little vague--I had a bump on the head !!!!!

Gary Morris is brilliant, I have LP's & Cd's by him all boughht in the States and even a dvd. First time I saw him was in a soap and he played a blind singer, his voice is incredible.

Actually, the making of "Les Miserables" called "Stage by Stage " is available as part of a 2 dvd set of the 10th Anniversary of "Les Mis" I forgot about that. There was something similar for Miss Saigon. [which I loved-I saw the musical 3 times in London--but it just seems to have faded away }

Funnily Marian we have just booked for a local production of Miss Saigon.My sister in law saw it in London years ago and has never forgotten it.
I don't suppose their will be a helicopter on stage but we should get a flavour of it!

We were in all day yesterday due to the rain and our car being in the garage for a repair so I settled down to watch the film version of Les Mis while John watched the tennis.
Still love it whether stage or screen

Sandra, I am sure you will love Miss Saigon--totally different to "Les Mis", but great music again-the same composers. And a romantic, but sad story. I saw it with Lea Salonga each time, also Jonathan Price, Simon Bowman, and Claire Moore--great cast.
