Paul appears with Mark Porter in the Kings of Swing. A great show! Looks like he's doing well.
Just thought I'd post this here and see what the experts think...

Nice singer Marian. Not heard of him before.Does he play the Sinatra part in the Rat Pack I wonder?
Although Mark Porter has a lovely Sinatra type voice too?
Great big band.Spotted a couple of S.L.O. members depping there as well.

Good singer but I felt he was lacking in individual style, Matt put his own stamp on his songs.
There are many good singers around but they could be anyone as they don't have a style of their own.

They don't imitate the Rat Pack, just sing songs from that era Sandra. The third singer is Tony Benedict, (when we saw them anyway) occasionally someone else takes over, and sometimes there are just two of them. Mark has his own band too, when he appears solo, don't know if they share.

You are right Karl. Matt did put his own stamp on his songs and Sinatra got it right when he said that Matt's pitch was right on the nose,... meaning no effort to reach a note. it was there bang on, so with other singers versions, including Paul's, this one in particular, we notice the difference instantly, and yes, there are singers around who are average or mediocre, no real style, but with Marian we have seen Paul Pashley, Mark and Tony Benedict and considered all three then to be exceptionally good singers and entertainers. !!

We agree with you Lena and Harry. I wasn't really putting up Paul's voice against Matt Monro's, of course. Out of today's singers Paul, Mark and Tony are very good and the Kings of Swing Show is very worth a visit. As Lena and Harry have said, a comedy element is added that made to show even more entertaining, as well as their three great voices.

Going off subjectdbut it's relevant to what we are talking about.
Out of curiousity I bought the new Jasmine cd on Richard Chamberlain which includes his two LP's.
He actually sounds better than I remember but while he is a very fine actor indeed he chose the right path, ok he can sing but there is no emotion or feeling there.
Matt's live version of "Walk Away" from the dvd brought tears to my eyes when he sang the line "Goodbye My Love", he almost whispered it. I like when a singer performs a song that but differently live, that's what makes them a great song stylist. Dusty was the same she never sang a song the same way twice live.

Richard Chamberlain must have used all his emotion in his acting roles Karl! I loved him in 'The Thorn Birds' and 'Doctor Kildare.'
